I have an indoor Aloe Vera plant that's about two feet tall. As it grows, the bottom part turns withery and dead-looking. If it were the top part I think it would need pruning, but how can one remove the bottom part? Should I transplant it and bury all the dead-looking bottom part? I have a small dowel holding it up but it just looks so tacky with the about 6-inch dead part at the bottom. The healthy leaves are about 15-18 inches long so I really would like to save it.

can't you just break off or cut the old dead looking leaves at the bottom? I grow mine outside but when I need some I just break off a chunk on one of the bottom leaves. they tend to die off anyway when they're touching the ground too much.

It's not just the bottom leaves that wither, but the entire stalk. Do you know what would happen if I cut all the dead part off the bottom? Could it reroot? Or am I risking death to the entire plan? (definitely not what I want to do...)

it could reroot, if you let the cut end dry first.
