I just like the stakes, Don't like sticking my hand in and might run up on a spider visiting in there

I try to take one day at a time -- but sometimes several days attack me at once.

I just use tree branches as stakes and tie the 'maters on to them with fishing line I don't use anymore. It's cheap!

Holy, did you plant that many tomatoes Dodge? You might have to rip some 2 by 4 lumber to make enough stakes for that many.

O.k. since our garden season isn't long enough to grow big tomatoes, I've never seen a plant of that variety before. How tall do they really get?

Ciao Dodge-

I have 60 8 foot x 2 inch x 2 inch cedar stakes, the most in-ground indeterminate tomatoes I've grown in one season. I've got 52 in-ground indeterminates this year. It works out to about an hour of work every 3 days or so during the height of the growing season, where we are right now. With a full-time job, spending a half hour in the morning and another half hour after returning home would do it. I like the access to the plants that staking provides and after several seasons, I get into a rhythm with it, so it doesn't really feel like a chore. I find that even with cages, I still have to shove branches back in; it's not a hassle-free system by any stretch, plus the access to the fruit is limited. Most of my gardening friends who go the CRW cage route have issues with the plants outgrowing the cages. It's very difficult to find CRW that is 7-8 ft wide, and even then, some of my tomatoes outgrow the 8 ft stakes by the time all is said and done.

Grazie a tutti,
Julianna

Thats what happens to mine......Out grow the stakes and most fall over if I use cages in a storm.
Let them hang out ......Easier to get to.

My little cherry ones are about to start in red........

Wow
