Does anyone here drink herbal teas? I am thinking of kicking the coffee.

I hear different opinions on the teas, some good, some bad and some just downright scarey. Like the lady who died from chamomile tea.... how do you know what's safe?

So will you be kicking caffeine too? Or just coffee in general?

I only do decaf and I didn't realize until a few years ago that tea has caffeine too.

I don't do herbal teas....I've always been wary of herbal stuff in general. Makes me nervous. I usually just drink plain old tea. With a little milk and sugar.

The coffee...I love coffee but the three tsps of sugar I put in it is worse than the caffeine.

I like orange pekoe tea but am wondering on something different, something that would go good with a smidge of honey for sweetening it. I'm wondering if a person can get berry flavoured tes and such....I must check the Wal-mart.

Our grocery store only carries orange pekoe and green tea(yuck)...Is their other teas that aren't considered herbal? I'm lost.

Oh yes you can get all kinds of berry teas. My dad drinks all different kinds of teas.

I'm not much of a tea person myself though, I'm sure someone will come thru with more tea knowledge.

BTW, I put 3 tsp of sugar in my coffee too. Mark always asks me if I want some coffee with my sugar.

I could turn you into a great bargain shopper here. Stuff is so cheap, you'd love it. You'd be begging me to go shopping with you.

tamara lemon flavored tea is esp. good with lemon (I think)

Lipton makes a naturally decaffeinated "green tea" that is good too.

and then if you have it there is a tea called "Constant Comment" by "Bigelow" company.--- it comes in decaffeinated as well as caffeined. the decaf one has a green "ribbon" across it that says 'deacaffeinated'. it is flavored with orange rind and sweet spices.---I esp enjoy it.

the Bigelow teas are good because while they come in a box.......inside the box each tea bag is sealed in a foil outer bag.---keeps them fresh that way (and I have all sorts in a basket so I can chose which I want, when in th mood for a cuppa tea.)

The teas you find in any ordinary grocery store are usually safe enough for average consumption.

People typically get in trouble when they try to use "herbal" teas medicinally -- as remedy for everything imaginable. Many of these aren't "tea's" at all -- they are a variety of plants that gain the name "tea" by the process of brewing them in water.

There are professional herbalists who will advocate (if not actually prescribe) making "tea" out of things you ordinarily wouldn't want to ingest. While an herbalist does have a vast degree of knowledge that can be quite helpful, they aren't physicians. However, many trained herbalists will work in tandem with a medical facility under supervision and do get helpful results.

I love tea and drink a wide variety of flavored teas of several brands. One of my favorites is Earl Grey which has cardimon in it. I also like Earl Grey Lavender.

Like Carol Jean said, you can purchase nummerous flavors and keep them on hand either in an air-tight container or buy them individually wrapped. Then you can have lots of fun "sampling".

As to the woman who died drinking chamomile tea, I would have to wonder about the other factors involved. Did she purchase a chamomile tea from a reputable tea grower or try to make her own? Was the chamomile treated with anything before or after harvesting? Did she have pre-existing health conditions?

Most people who drink chamomile tea like to have it in the evening for it's relaxing qualities.

Thanks all, I thought a flavoured tea was an herbal tea...guess I was wrong. I'll have to wait a few weeks til I go to town. I'll check the grocery aisles at the Super Wal-Mart...maybe I can find an assorted flavoured box.

They have assorted flavor boxes at Wal-Mart here. That is what I buy and sometimes I buy the SleepyTime tea. It is wonderful!
