My two are about 3 feet tall with lots of leaves but no buds in sight yet Dodge - I was wondering the same thing? Although if they are anything like the daturas that I grew a few years ago, they won't bloom here til close to the end of the summer unfortunately.

I had some last summer and they bloomed later in August I believe. Unfortunately they didn't make it through the winter. I put them in the garage. If I can ever find any around here I will keep them in the basement next time! I was very sad to lose them! I loved them!!!

I know they are prone to pests but if you keep on top of it they are okay. I can't find anywhere around here that sells them. why

IF Brugs Have a Y Branch they more than likely will bloom in June and September,, Last year Mine bloomed in september and continued to bloom until I had to cut them down and cover them for the winter,,
This year Mine are growing slowly except for the un named pink and adora,, but the rest are shorter this year and the leaves are developing smaller,,
The lack of rain around here is what I'm blaming it on,, notme Cindy told me if I occasionally pull off a large leaf here and there it will make the plant grow taller,, I tried it and either it's true or the brug just happen to have a growth splurt, because it got much taller,, I have now done that to all of my brugs,, so we'll see.

Look for a Y section with growth on both arms of the Y and that is where you should see blooms,,,,, again I believe in September,,,,

Jessica I'm sorry you lost your plant,,,, I'll send some starters this fall if you want,, I had so many I ended up tossing a bunch,,,,,, three 6 ft brugs gave a lot of starts, when you cut them down to over winter lol

On Saturday, before we left for the beach for the weekend, I checked my brugs as I do everyday - imagine my joy when I found this!

[Linked Image]

I also saw a tiny bud forming on the other side of the Y on that plant.
Today, imagine my sheer joy when I found this - 2 more buds for a total of 3 -
can you see them all?
[Linked Image]

AND... my Adora brug in the front of the house has finally Y'd too!
Hopefully it won't be long til I see buds on that one too!

Lynne--it took me a bit but I finally found the buds.
(I finally figured out what I was looking for)
and I must say, your brug plants are so healthy looking--you certainly take good care of them. thumbup

I have some buds on mine as well, two on a double white and a few on two pink ones.

[Linked Image]

[Linked Image]

I noticed that the pink ones did no Y out. I know that they only bloom after they Y out, or at every Y, can't remember which. I'm guessing that the cuttings I got were from above a Y

clap clap clap it will take a couple of days to fully flower and it will darken when it gets fully bloomed.. I'm soooooooo sooooooo glad you got blooms from them,

Mine all got spider mites terribly bad,, I had to cut them all back but they are putting out new and bigger leaves and I'mm keeping a very close eye on them!

Again Lynne,, I'm just as thrilled for you as if They were blooming for me here,!! clap

I have to water mine every day or the leaves will start to droop, and you can start watering it and they'll perk right up.

Thanks Diane. kissie
YOU should be proud too - afterall - they are YOUR babies!
Thanks so much again for sending them to me! kissie
I'm really excited because I'll be able to see the flowers from the windows in the back of the house! Some flowers I can't, like the Adora brug that is on the front corner of the house - it's JUST about to get some buds too! It gets afternoon shade, so it's a bit behind the Charles Grimaldi that gets full all day sun.

By the way Belinda - the one in the front droops everyday from the strong morning sun - but it perks right back up when the sun goes to the other side of the house. The one in full sun never droops - go figure?!? I used to water them everyday because I was worried about drooping - haven't in a while - usually once a week now, and they are doing fine.

I just wish they had a longer flowering period here in zone 6, and that it didn't take so many weeks for them to get to this point.

Diane - good luck with your new leaves - I have every faith that you will have blooms soon - you have great skill with all your plants there!

Hiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii!

Nope - no buds on Adora yet, though she is as tall as I am already!
(admittedly that's not so tall, at 5'1", but no buds and she has Y'd.)

Can you stand yet another picture of Charles Grimaldi that I took this afternoon?

Four of the cuttings Diane gave me last year made it. All got spider mites then as soon as they are growing good I found leaves yesterday looked like some animal had been chewing on the leaves still was slick with what appeared to be saliva. Only thing I can guess is one of the neighbors 10 cats came over and chewed on them as my dogs can't get to them as they are in a chain link fenced yard.

Jimmy My adora looks like something has chewed on it too left nothing but the spine of the leaf on many leaves and even some of those are half chewed,, I've looked very carefully at the plant I see no insects of any kind,,,,, guess I'd better get the hotsauce and lemon joy out, and spray it down After it cut off the bad pieces again,,,,,,,,, egad rolz

Adora has sprouted her first bud!
It's pretty tiny - only about 3/4 of an inch - but it's definitely there! grin

Dodge - I am in zone 6 here, and the first frost dates are between Oct. 30 and Nov. 10th. I thought you were in the same zone there?

I probably won't get to see a lot of blooms, but at least I'll get to see what they look like and for that I am thrilled!

it is so hard to think you will have frost in 3 weeks since it was 92* here today.

They say we will have frost around the 13th of September this year. It is supposed to get down to 38 tonight!!

Sheri Brugs have a tendency to bloom in Sept the first year off a cutting, I have no idea if it's in a pot I only got two blooms from my potted one last year and this year it's not as good looking as last year,, they do like lots of bloom booster this time of year,, welllllll actually they like it all spring and summer once a week or at least once every ten days,,,,,,, They simply love fertilizers and compost,.

Dodge,,,,,,,pot it up in a good compost enriched soil and place it to get as much sunlight as possible,, ,, bad thing about being indoors is you'd have to watch for spider mites,, at least here I do,, boohoo Brugs like lots of root room too btw,, if yours is already 2-3 foot tall it would need a good size pot but not clay ......... plastic is better probably say a plastic bucket like a 25 gallon one or bigger,,,, I've know someone that used a cheaper make of rubbermaid tub and punched drain holes in the bottom and used the lid as the catch tray,, problem is she had to use a dolly to move it outside in the spring, shock notme , but it bloomed in the winter because she had it in a south window,, thumbup and she even fertilized it once a month in the winter too.

These aren't new. They've bloomed in years past. They're outside in the ground. I'm thinking it may be the drought because they were only inches high until we got rain. Watering with a hose doesn't seem to help them much.

Yours are so white diane. they've beautiful.

I hope I am able to overwinter some cuttings from Diane's brugs - these Charles Grimaldi keep getting better by the day, with more blooms, and WOWZERS do they ever smell so wonderful! I love going by that side of the pond in the late afternoon/evening - the scent is heavenly!

It wasn't doing much of anything, but today the bud seems to be as long as it's going to get, and is fuller and very very lightweight - I hope there is a flower still in there, what with the weather we've been having - hot then cold, then hot again, and now cooler - we finally had some rain last weekend and that encouraged lots of other buds to pop a little bit.

Here is the origianl bud - I hope it gets to open soon - we are supposed to go down in the high 40's at night this week.
[Linked Image]

I counted 19 more buds today - WOWZERS!!!
I sooooooooooo hope they all get to bloom!!!

Put a huge piece of plastic on them if frost threatens..
Mine aren't near that big, but I did get one bloom.

Good luck.
I hope, I hope you get to see them.

I'm soooooo thankful these unnamed pink have done so well after cutting back,,,,, and thankful the weather has been excellent~ cooler at night mid 60's and day 80's . I mixed some mushroom compost. gardening soil and home compost and hand tilled it in to the soil about two weeks ago,, and gave her a good feeding of fish emulsion,, Today I counted about 25 bloom buds in different stages of development, even if it get cooler here as long as we don't have a frost for another 6 weeks I'll have blooms for a while!

Diane - your brugs are incredibly gorgeous!!!

Here is the first Adora bud still not in full bloom yet - golly gee willackers it's taking its sweet time!!! If it doesn't hurry up, it's not going to get its chance - we are going to take a turn for the cold starting tomorrow and it's all downhill from there!

Here is the bloom, still green, so Diane can see it...

Do you think that is like sending boys and girls parts of the plant?

One fertile and one not?

Lucky you outside with yours all year.

You dont have to send.. another lady did and i put them in soil in the basement.See if I kill them..b

I Don't think it is the case Dodge,, It;s just that primarily they bloom faster after a Y is formed

Closing this one, starting a New One wavy
