Tonight I'm going to try to stand closer and see if I can get a better pic. I'm so excited, my very first hummingbird, and it stops by every evening so far!!

Once a hummer finds a feeder that it will use, it will ALWAYS remember where it is.

Thanks, Cindy. When I saw that feeder I couldn't resist it. It was so cute and tiny and quiet. This is the first time I've seen one up close, and in my own yard!

So how long before it brings friends or is followed, do you think? It always feeds from the same flower, they are creatures of habit aren't they?

They WON'T bring friends or family. Hummers are the MOST vicious, aggressive, belligerent, birds in the world. Once the young are able to fly, mom kicks them out of the nest and then leaves herself. She will attack them if she ever sees them again. After two Hummers mate, the male says, "I'm outta here; and I WON'T call you in the morning!!". The female responds, "GOOD! I NEVER WANT TO SEE YOU AGAIN!!!!"

Look at Barb's post about action shots on this thread. That shows what happens when two hummers arrive at the SAME feeder at the SAME time.

WoW! I knew they were mean little things just from watching them - guess I didn't have a clue as to just how nasty they are! Amazing!

Here is a Painting by a well known Anthromorphic Artists, Dark Natasha. She was illustrating the warlike nature of Hummers by portraying them half human half animal bodies and with humanlike characteristics.

I keep reading different things about how often I should be changing the nectar. Is once a week enough? Our summer temps have ranged from upper 50's to upper 80's.

Also, I'm seeing that hummingbird multiple times a day now. As early as 7am and as late as 9:30pm. That little bird is really liking my supply now that's it's found it. I was able to sit only a few feet away today and it came by, fed, and then rested on the feeder. It was near to see it sitting still. Of course I had my camera in hand. I still need to upload the pics and choose the best ones. I had my camera taking rapid pictures so there's quite a few. I love this new adventure!!

I filled my feeders again tonight. Camille and Frawill have fresh breakfast in the morning. One of them buzzed me this morning to let me know to change it.
