I finally fixed the running toliet. Talk about a project that will drive you nuts until it is done.

So what "honey do's" have you gotten completed?

Great job, tk! I can't stand a running toilet, either! Did it need a new stopper type thingy in the tank? Or what?

Last weekend we FINALLY got replacement bulbs in the overhead kitchen fixture. I know that doesn't sound like much, but they have been burned out for a year and getting it done wasn't as easy as it might sound.

The bulbs themselves were very hard to get out of the fixture as they don't turn like a regular bulb. And we had to go to three stores to find replacements because they are about 8 inches long x an inch or so wide and very flat.

Complicate that with the fact that the ceiling is 9 ft high and everyone here is quite short and even standing on chairs didn't help!

But they are in there now!

I got the flashing put in place over my gutter last week. I installed the gutter too low for it to catch the rain right so it had been leaking for over a year....problem was I couldn't find 4 inch wide flashing anywhere. Just luck that they had some left at a contractors office in town.

One thing down and another 99 to go thumbup

Tammy ~ I don't mean to hijack your thread, but I've been hoping to catch you on in Banter to ask you something about Mah Jong. If I'm remember right, you are a very good player?

I'm working on learning to be better at it than I am but I can't seem to win on the board that has four squares, one in each corner, and are connected between. I can get down to the last 25 or 30 tiles then I run out of moves. Frustrating!

Do you have any tips for a beginner Mah Jong-er?

I play poker mah jongg not the solitare version. I'm sorry I can't be of any help. I can't even do the simple patterns of the game you are talking about. Maybe if you started a topic about it someone could help you?

Since I'm afraid of heights and have sloping ceilings in the house I know what you mean about changing light bulbs. A friend came up from the coast or I still would have the wrong type of bulb in the guest bathroom. I couldn't get it out at all even with a ladder.

Your going to laugh at me. The fix for the toliet was so easy and yet it took me about 6 tries to finally get it right. The chain was to long and kept on catching on itself or underneath the flapper. Such a simple thing right? It robbed me of one nights sleep before I finally got it right. I'm finding that I don't have a nack for DIY.

Now I'm replacing the arm on the shower head. The part that goes into the wall and then attaches the head. The old one had split at the seam. The problem this time is that I can't get the head detached from the arm of the old one to install it on the new one. Grrrrh. So I stuck the entire assemble into my purse and I'm taking it to church with me. Someone will know what to do. I hope.

And I have the modem. Now I just need instructions on how to put it in. I'm so excited. I'll be able to view and take pictures.

Thanks for explaining about the Mah Jong. I'm so new at the game, I didn't even know there is a poker version! Gee, that must be really tough!

Hey, I'm not laughing about the toilet repair because I know how difficult it can be to get the chain length exactly right. Too long and it gets caught underneath; too short and it won't let the stopper go down all the way! I'm glad you were able to get it where it needed to be.

I can't wait to see pictures when you are able to post them! This is so exciting.

And let us know how it turns out with taking the showerhead to your friends.

That-a-girl. thumbup Where there is a will, there is a way.

Can you see any rust? sometimes just heating it with a heat gun will help...if it's teflon tape that's holding it together.

you know it is so light that I think it may be plastic with a coating of metalic looking paint. There is no rust anywhere. If fact I thought it was new until I turned on the water. That was an unpleasant suprise. And I had company when it happened.

TK, do you have a good hardware store near you? If so take it there, they might have a plumbing tool handy to help take it apart for you.

We have a 'project desk' here at our Kents Hardware...those men help with anything. I've seen a woman go there with a plan list for a planter box and they even cut all the pieces to size for her at no cost.

I don't have anything near me lol. That's part of the joy of being out here. Not traffic, no noise not as much crime. But, my hardware store would probably help. It's a good suggestion.

I was watching the DIY channel and one of their helpful tip commercials came on. And guess what...it was how to take off a shower head. It said to put a rag around the pipe. So I did that and the shower head came right off. Isn't that cool?

So now I have a master bedroom shower that works without damaging the ceiling. Way cool huh? Of course I noticed that the faucet eschusion wasn't seated tight against the wall. I'll have to look into that and see what is going on. It's always something.

Tamara I have a leak at one end of my gutter. Of course right now it's not a major concern....no rain. But I would love to know how to fix it. Do you have any suggestions. It's just at a blind end near the front door.

HEY! That is so neat you learned how to DIY via a TV commercial tip! So glad it worked for you!!

I will be interested to hear what others recommend you do for the other fix it ups, too.

Get a tube of 'Seal-all' about $3.....just squeeze it onto where the leak is.

No honest question is a "stupid" question, tk! An honest question deserves an honest answer, always.

If you've never done it before, how would you know without asking?

thumbup

The inside...you could also use a good outdoor silicone if it's just a minor leak.

I've got a small crack in mine to repair...but it rains here everyday.

Well, DH finally took the measurements for our windows. Planning to go get them ordered this week. Not sure what style yet...plan on buying the cheapest PVC ones they make.

vinyl windows? Wow those are expensive. How many do you need to get and which ones? I'm lucky there I have storm windows on almost every window in the house. Well except for the back door and the sliding glass door.

I need 4...two for the bedrooms, one dining room and one living room(that's going to be the most costly). The windows in my house are wood and second hand..the seals are all gone and they steam up and have decayed beyond repair...they were originally bought 30 years ago.

Morning...Carol they belonged to my best friends uncle. They built their house 30 years ago with them and replaced them 12 years ago with vinyl(they remodelled the outside fully) so we bought them, sanded, stripped and repainted them and put them in our house. So we've only had them 12 years but they are originally 30 years old.

We couldn't afford new windows at the time so we bought them all second hand...except the kitchen one, we couldn't find one small enough. The rest are fine but these Casement style ones have seen better days.

My neighbour say's her is, and alot cheaper than casement style.

Well, I resprayed the bottom of my wheel barrow last night, I put that thing through hell every year. I also tarred the cracks in the driveway, need to seal it this week end.

The tilt in windows are wonderful to clean----you can stand inside the comfort of your house and clean both the inside & outside of your windows.--No matter what time of year.--- The only issue is the screens are on the outside and between them and the windows gets full of dust & whatever can blow thru the screen.----I did not like that but the ease of cleaning made up for that. I have a notion the newer styles are better in that area. The ones in this house have a smaller area between the screen & the window & so the dust & dirt issue is not as big. (I just checked)

Wow, I never noticed the screens are on the outside. I'll only get to see what they have when we go this week. I'm hoping we go this week, we had plans to go Friday afternoon...if my jaws feel fine.

I replaced the inner workings of the anti-sippon faucet. Yea! I broke the old plastic threaded piece so i had to drill out the rest of it before I could put in the new one. That took me a few days. Grrrh plastic. But it's done now.

only 29 items left on the honey do list for 46+. That's pretty good. Most of those remaining are waiting on money so I'm really feeling good.

Wow...your getting there TK.

DH got an estimate on our windows yesterday...I was shocked. And you know what? Casement style is cheaper than lift and tilts.

I might not be ordering all that I wanted..well if the miners can drill a few more holes on my land I'll be o.k. They are back there now...not fussy on it but we could use the money. thumbup

Oh and the guy argued that you are not allowed to put in windows for a bedroom under 45 by 45 inches anymore, oh well. DD's room is going to be a 'computer/sewing room' if there is no bed when they deliver the windows, then it is allowed.

Oh and my DH was being a real sweetie, he heard me complain I needed more preserve bottles so he got sis-in-law to pick me up a box last night...they are a smaller size but it was a great surprise in my eyes....some times it's just the little things thumbup

So that means I can finish up my preserving on Sunday...another thing off my list.

Yup, 12 beets, 12 sweet pickles, 2 mustard beans, 5 mustard pickles and 7 cucumber lunch. I've made another 12 bottles of mustard beans since then as well.

I have over 80 bottles of preserves made and still haven't made relishes or dill pickles yet.
