well Dodge, with tomatoes, First I make a bowl of either milk, or milk and an egg blended together. then in another bowl I put some flower and I either season the flower OR I seasone the tomatoes slices later.

then after the bowls of 'stuff' are ready, I dip each slice in whatever liquid I have prepared. then I dredge the 'wet' tomato slices in the flour--now I fry them in either hot oil, melted shortening, or lard.
That is what I mean by breaded.

(if I do not season the flour I salt & pepper the tomato slices after I dip them in the milk or milk egg wash.

when they are done, I have a brown bag covered with paper towel ready and I drain them on that. This is the time I put additional seasoning on them......but then I love my salt. blush

others may use 'batters' to bread, before frying but that is what I do.

gee I am hungry for them--- boohoo

we use half flour and half cornmeal (or cornbread mix)...instead of straight flour. oh, and I've found using plastic baggies for the wet and dry mixtures is less messy than using bowls. just a preference/opinion.

My Aunt (originally from West Virginia) used to make the best fried okra with that mix. I can still taste i t----I wish she were alive to make me some.

and yes, I agree it would make it less messy to use bags.--thanks for the tip

Carol convinced me try them last year. I didn't care for them...but I don't like raw tomatoes. I think I didn't cook them enough.

Tamara, you probably cut them too thick and tehn didn;t like the mushy taste of the tomato. cut very thin they are like a chip cut less than 1/4 but a very bit more than 1/8 they cook up but are not so mushy when done. thye are like eating a tangy french fry.

Yup, raw tomatoe texture grosses me out.

Were having fun eating Zucchini slice thin, with onions, and fresh peppers.
We just love them.. No breading.
Butter the pan and brown a little and put the lid on top and let them steam till soft......wow.

Now I must go and Pickle my Beets..
Picked yesterday........
Tamara your season amazes me......You have less summer, but your doing the same things I am canning time???????Strange huh?

When I fry chicken I bread it with egg, milk and flour too. I don't bread okra though. I get the olive oil hot and just dump in the slices. It's good plain.
