Hello all - I am new to the Denver area and would love to hear from others who garden here. I have a yard (wont call it a garden just yet) that I have high hopes for. So far, the back yard has produced a bit of grass, tons of weeds and it does not obsorb water very well. My backyard is a very narrow, long strip that runs along my house (10 x 30). Any ideas?

Hi and welcome Mandarin.

What are you planning for the area? flowers, trees or veggie garden?

Thanks for the welcome!

Cannot do trees since the area is so narrow. would love to do some flowers and groundcover. maybe some vines to climb the fence.

Also interested in getting the lawn to grow back in. I heard that early fall is a good time to reseed the lawn. Is that right?

Yes fall is the time to reseed.

You may need to put in a french drain if you have a water retention problem. Either that or add a great deal of clean fill dirt with a fair amount of sand in it. It depends on how low your house is to the ground if you can do that one.

Actually you could probably do a couple of miniature trees. Something like the golden chain tree might be nice. It only grows about 6 feet high and I think they are just gorgeous. But it would depend on the amount of sun the back yard gets.
