When do I do this and HOW do I do this??? I need step by step "tree trimming for dummies" type of directions. The tree in front of our house is an Eastern Redbud and it grew quite a bit this spring and summer. So, now when you walk down our front walkway to the porch, you either have to lean to the right to avoid the tree or you have to get whacked in the face with the leaves. I'd like to keep the nice shape of the tree...please tell me how to do this. I'll grab some up to date pictures of the tree tomorrow.

No one seems to have answered this, So I will give it a shot.
I have a redbud, adore its pinky purple buds in the spring. Ours is old we have lived here 10 years and I am sure it has been here longer,
I have trimmed mine back in summer and in winter.
I know there are specifics about where to trim and how to make the cut, I think there is something about that somewhere on this board. Anyway what I do know is that if you trim now you compromise the bud bloom for next spring. they have already set there buds.
MAybe someone will chime in!
