Hi,

My friend at work has a spider plant on his desk; recently he has noticed small “insects” walking over the top of the soil.

They are white in colour, they look like corn flies/thunder bugs only they are white and not black, they are the same size as corn flies, but we haven’t noticed them flying around (yet). Does any one have any ideas what they might be and how to get rid of them?

I suggested removing the plant from its pot, washing it and its roots completely and re-potting it in new soil.

There shouldn’t be any thing in the soil as I bought indoor plant compost from the garden centre to pot all of the spider babies and then gave it to him. All of the spider plants at home are potted in the same soil and they all appear to be fine, as do my two spider plants on my desk which are very close to his spider plant (and I obviously don’t want them to get the insect problem either, although it doesn’t look like they have any yet).

Many Thanks 

Sorry I should probably say the "insects" don't appear to have any wings, so I've figured they are larvae of some sort, just what I dont know.
