Not much today. I need to trim the grass right along the bed and do some deadheading.

I weeded my asperagus bed and re=applied a thick layer of dried grass for mulch.
I really need to find out if I should be cutting back my asperagus and if so when.

I did the same to my herb garden---and then of course I watered.

I don't know anything about asperagus? I've never even eaten it, although it does look like something I'd like. especially if it was only slightly steamed. wonder if it grows here in zone 9?

I only watered some fall seedlings and picked a couple of tomatoes. I have one collard green with true leaves already! my little seedlings are sprouting up like no bodies business! (doesn't sound like much, but I've only learned to do seeds in the past year, so I STILL amaze myself!)

I'll have a lot of watering to do in the morning!

just wondering... is rain a real thing or just an urban legend???

lol@cricket, that was a good one. I started off the morning with a chuckle that's always a good sign. I haven't gotten out into the garden today but I'm working my way out there.

I love watching seeds sprout so I know how you feel. My pot of chives have started to sprout so no I know that I'm really moved it. It just wasn't home without them.

TK, I know what you mean, when we moved, one of the first things I did was dig up my chive plant and pot it.--I kept it in said pot for about 1-1/2 years, well until Rod built me a raised veggie garden. and there it sits to this day, alive and well. I do so wish I had of brought my blackberries and my asperagus with me as well---
I have to drive by my old house several times a week, and see what the new owners are NOT doing with my lovely garden.

and yes, one apparently CAN transplant asperagus.
--I needed to move my bed over several years before we moved and so I thought well I may as well give it a try---and guess what, when I moved a few of the plants, they 'took' !!--(it didn't happen easily though)

Cricket, I really do not know if it grows in your zone or not-----sorry.

also sorry about the no rain thing---I guess we are fortunate--we are still getting it here, as a matter of fact, we are getting an unusual amount for the season.--But then we had a dry summer last year, so I guess one just never knows, huh???

So true, I'm in a no rain situation right now but I have my fingers crossed. It is cloudy out today. But just incase I've watered all of the plants the hose can get to.

I've also got the plastic down on the sidewalk. Now I'm waiting for the sand.

Then I weeded the future sidewalk flower bed. The grass and weeds went in right on top the the cardboard and decomposing green matter. Stuborn weeds. But they are gone now woohoo.

Then I took the gravel from the sidewalk and made a barrier around the bottom of the future veggie garden. That way I can add the fall leaves and not have to worry about them migrating to the driveway.

Then I weeded the foundation bed.

I feel like such a good girl lol.

And I even got a load of laundry in the works. That had something to do with how filthy my garden gloves were. Really bad.

Now for the next 100 projects lol.

It's real, and it's stuck over us. This is just ridiculous. The gardens are shot, the rain has leeched out everything, the plants are all yellow. Rain, rain please go away to someones elses yard to play....can you hear me chanting

I plucked out all my 'beyond rain damaged' plants. Lost my corn now.

Oh, DH just filled in the stress crack that goes across my driveway. It was on my list so I guess it counts I think this 2 week vacation might give me a helping hand this week.

Blacktop repair is on my list but way down. I don't think I'll get to it for awhile.

I'm so sorry to hear about your garden. That is just awful.

Today I took about 18 of my seedings out to the garden and planted them in the tree bed. They included the short purple zinnia and the standard size purple ones. None of the white came up. I don't know why on that one I treated them the same as the rest. But who knows plants have a mind of their own. There were 4 Hollyhocks. Next year we will know which colors. And a couple of Curled Kale. So it's a nice bunch all together.

Pretty soon it will be time to consider doing the fall planting. I'm looking forward to that too.

Well I got out there and transplanted the Dark Italian Basil. Watered the plants that aren't on the soaker hose line. Turned on the water for the other ones. Then cleared about 50 feet of brush from around the downed tree so that I could get at it with the saw. I only got about 3 2 foot sections cut because that saw is down right whimpy. But then so am I. I probably couldn't handle one like my dad had when I was a young adult. I guess this is going to be another long term project.

I plucked over a gallon of bush beans today and weeded up a bit in the veggie garden. I lost most of it but the carrots, onions and beans are going strong.

i'm glad some of the veggie garden survived for you. Are you going to be canning?

Whew, today I moved the big sticks to where the future wood pile will be and I transplanted the lemon basil into the tree garden at each lower corner. and then I hand watered all of the plants that needed it.

I don't know what happened by my little gypsy pepper has taken off like it's on steroids. Which is great. There are a bunch of tiny fruits starting on it which is fantastic. And the mini choclate peppers are doing nicely too. I haven't lost one to transplant shock. Soo all's good.

I've got 80 bottles of preserves made so far, in fact I'll be doing more next week. I ran out of bottles last night, I need to buy more bottles on payday.

Oh and forgive my idiocy, Diane, I forgot to answer the other things...

Although they are perennial, they are so easy and inexpensive to mass produce, many gardeners prefer to treat them as annuals and so spare themselves the work involved with over-wintering! I do believe I've read from gardeners in your state who pinch them way back for wintering. But I would even consider bringing them indoors or at least a protected spot; that is the advantage of having them in a container.

80 bottles? You go girl. That's fantastic. I don't have that many bottles either. But maybe someday. I do pick them up when I see there here and there.

I can never keep a good stash of mason jars, it seems; particularly not the wide mouth! I give most of what I preserve away as gifts and people are forgetful about giving the jars back so I can fill them again.

I know even other women that can forget to give you the jars back. It is crazy. I'm thinking I'll do it backwards when I have stuff to can. I'll let them know I'm going to can and if they want some to bring me some jars. It's the only way I can afford to share.

I'm going to check if my tomatoes are ready to harvest.

I picked two maters and a cayanne this evening. and, I checked on my seelings since we had a good hard rain yesterday and another small shower today. EVERY one of my snap peas are up! I guess I'll need to thin since I planted them assuming some wouldn't come up. NONE of my broccoli has come up and it's been 15 days. only 3 of the collard greens came up. and no cilantro. I'll wait till after wednesday, were expecting rain every day till then, and put out some more broccoli seed and cilantro. Oh and I noticed my loofa is turning yellow. I'll have to go back and read, but I think it's about time to pick that and start the drying process. Just did some looking today, I guess. that counts for something doesn't it?

Yup which is why I stopped giving away preserves. It's expensive and people know that if they don't preserve than the bottle is not theirs...

Yesterday I convinced DH to help me cut the grass(he's been home all week on holidays and driving me insane), between the rain it's been impossible. It only showered a bit in the a.m. So at supper we tackled it...I gave him the ride-on mower and I took the push. Big mistake....

He cut the lawn in different heights(playing with the mowing deck) and smothered every flower bed in grass clippings, then when I complained he said I should be happy he helped...geez sure...now it will take me twice as long to clean the mess than if I would have done it myself...I know he did it on purpose so I wouldn't ask again but it's gonna backfire on him. I think next time I'll make him do it all..even the clean up

So today I need to move two sand cherry trees and weed and de-grass everything...no rain til tonight in the forecast.

i'm curious what are sand cherry trees please?

It's a smaller tree that has deep burgundy leaves and tiny white flowers when it blooms..they are an ornamental tree that pollinates real cherry trees. I have two real cherry trees and two 'Sand cherry' ones.

My DH will do that, (mess things up on purpose)
--now, he cuts the grass,always has, but he somehow manages to cut it so that all the clippings go onto my rock patio area and onto the porch and onto my concrete driveway---see he does not consider cutting grass a man's job, and is still childish about it 30 years later.---his mom always cut the grass.---

so he delights in making me clean up after him---I think that behavior is just childish. I threw a fit the first time he REALLY made a mess----& so he now "tries to remember" to go the other way with the mower--yea right because one can easily forget that grass clippings are going onto the rocks & other areas---

,because he also took delight in cracking off corners of my brick trim with the weed eater, I have been doing the trimming with my hand shears along my rock edging, but that will soon come to an end. So I will have to pray that he is nicer to my bricks at least for this fall.

i'm doing pretty well without. Far less clean up so I have more time to do what they are suppose to. And it's done on my schedule without the nagging and complaining and pouting on both sides lol. But that's just me.

I cannot fault a thing you are saying, TK--not at all.

well, I got one Sandcherry tree moved...it's a start.

That's fantastic. How big was it?

For me I got everything watered. Or should I say I'm in the process of getting everything watered.

And I got the lowest rocky patch of the future veggie garden de-rocked. (lacking a better word lol.) And I put the rocks over in the tree bed in the border. So I'm feeling pretty good about everything.

The kale didn't survive the transplant. Ouchie. And the basil and zinnia aren't happy. But I'll do what I can to improve that situation and hope for the best. So far I still only have 3 blooms on the zinnia. Maybe tomorrow I'll take some fertilizer out there and see if that will help.

Only two feet, I cut it down early knowing it would be moved....one more to go this week end. The root mass was large...wow.

Sure, in fact i'll make DH do it...just for you. He told me I'm not doing a thing this week end, might as well take advantage of it.
