Yesterday after work I went to a co-workers house to learn how to make "Sopés" ( posted in another thread) and ended up having a cool drink made of hibiscus petals,, along with the sopés.
Believe me I was apprehensive to drink it But surprisingly it was really good . To me it's taste was like a 'heavier' berry koolade, with a hint of sweet plum my co-worker squeezed a bit of the lime juice from a slice into it then served it to me,,
This makes about 2 quarts..........
4 ounces dried hibiscus flowers 2 1/2 quarts cold water 1 1/2 to 2 cups sugar ( or to your taste) ice and orange slices or lime slices STEPS: In a large saucepan, combine the hibiscus flowers and water and bring to a boil. Simmer over moderate heat for 30 minutes. or remove from heat and cover to 'seep as you would a tea bag' Strain let cool, then stir in the sugar until it dissolves. Refrigerate until very cold.( add more water /sugar to taste if needed.) Serve the tea over ice along with orange slices or lime slices.Occasionally she said she adds ginger ale to it to make a gallon if it will all be consumed quickly,, makes it more like a punch,

Keep in mind the color of the petals may stain counter tops, & pans, she strained into the sink, as well as poured over the sink, her family drinks this instead of soda's and powdered drinks, because of the health value,, high in Vitamin C, good for digestive , etc,.
{packages of the dried Jamaican hibiscus can be found at your supermarket in the Caribbean and Mexican aisles.}

Diane I think I still have some seeds for Tea Hibiscus if you would like to grow some to make your own. I ordered it a couple of years ago I do drink it but not like I did at first. I found like the rose tea made like you posted on the Hib. tea was just too aromatic for me. But the grand kids loved it.
