It took a few days but the birds found the bird seed feeder today. I have a flock of blue birds, at least one cardinal and two catbirds. I love watch them feed. But I need binoculars. I'm getting so blind.

Walmart......Sporting Goods section...... Tasco 10 X 25 pocket sized binoculars......less than $20.00. They're good.

Another question...Do I have to keep the feeder full all the time Or can I ration them to 16 oz a day? I only have one 25 lb bag of feed.

Just fill them when they become empty. I haven't filled mine in over a month.

They empty mine within hours of it being filled. Of course a quarter of it ends up on the ground. I think I'll wait for them to do clean up duty before I refill it. I don't have the resources for them to waste food.

lol yeah they eat whatever you put out. I have had my food gone in 1 day also. I changed food to only feed specific birds. Not all of them. :list: it can get expensive

I use Black Oil Sunflower seeds in mine, and on my platform feeder. In addition, I ALSO put peanuts IN THE SHELL on the platform feeder for the Jays, along with apple slices for the Mockingbirds. And I put out suet cakes in cages for the Woodpeckers, Wrens, Mockingbirds, Kinglets, Chickadees (and Starlings). Add a few Hummer feeders in season and dripping bird baths and you are pretty well set up for many birds that come along.

TK, I don't have that problem. Wonder why your birds are starving. The birds come and eat a while then leave. I have to refill about once a week.

I hope to be able to add different feeders as time goes by. the list of things the property needs is pretty impressive right now. What is a drip bird bath? It is weird that they are so hungry. But then there was a flock of sparrows here yesterday and they ran off just about everything else.

I do have a suet cage it is rusty but I hope to get the rust off and then is there a metalic paint that is ok to put on it?

It's best to NOT use paint on bird houses or other bird items as many paints are toxic to wildlife

are you hanging them on hooks or on tree limbs? Just out of curiosity. They eat the same out of mine wherever I hang them.

Tree limbs for right now. I would like to have one of those hooks right infront of the bay window. That would be way cool. I think the suet feeder there. They can't make quiet as much of a mess with that can they?

the suet feeders don't make a mess at all. The seeds are the messy thing but when you use sunflower seeds you might have a pretty sunflower come up when you least expect it. I've found that the grass that comes up around the feeder usually dies down on it's own. Mine are mostly in the shade but if you have a sunny spot that needs grass maybe putting a hook there would be a good idea.
