We came across this, growing in a bit of scrub on a side street by the pond tonight. It's about five inches across . . . Anybody know what it is?

I potted it in some strained leaf mulch soil this afternoon and brought it inside.
Should I be putting it outside?

how is your weather now? I have mine outside. People make tea out of it - not me but a lady in my garden club does. It smells unusual too. The same lady loves the smell but I just think it's ok.

I most likely won't eat it or drink it, but I know it's good for that - the Japanese sprinkle it into rice, I read yesterday. I've made a decision on this - somebody at Cdn Gardening's forum suggested I just keep it inside for the winter and when (if) it goes to seed, save it and put it in the ground in spring. I really like the plant; one thing about it - if I see it growing in some scrub again, I'll know what it is.

Mine is outside...all winter. Always returns. However your choice. Yours in winter probably worse.
