This morning was cleaning around a shed and under my Banana plant found this plant I have no idea what it is growing there in a corner. This is the full plant as I found it. flowers/FullPlant.jpg" alt="[Linked Image]" class="post-image" style="height:auto!important;max-width:100%!important;"/>
Closer shot showing the fruit green to purple about the size of a pencil eraser.
I have no idea, Jimmy. It doesn't look like my elderberry tree/shrubs. I does look a little like some cotoneaster that I once had. But there are at least 50 varieties of cotoneasters, I think. Gifts from birds can be good things sometimes and sometimes not so good.

When weeding, the best way to make sure you are removing a weed and not a valuable plant is to pull on it. If it comes out of the ground easily, it is a valuable plant. Mary Ann LaPensee
no, wasn't me that said poke weed. don't try the berries, jimmy. looks like a young china berry tree. and if it is, the berries are poisonous. kenny, i'm not on the spot anymore than usual! i don't know anything about pokeweed.

Jiffy I NEVER eat something I am not 100% sure of. Thanks Kenny someone else told me it was Poke weed so I looked it up with 2 people saying that and sure enough that looks just like what I pulled up. Now I have to tell my neighbor she was right and that grips me to have to admit to her I was wrong and she was right. Thanks everyone for your input and knowledge.

Jim,my--I do not know its name--but I KNOW the berries are poisonous. When I was young My cousins & I would make juice out of these and "write" with it.
Someone told (me-us) that it was poisonous.--it has been to long and so I don't remeber anything else. But THAT was teh berry--and it IS a weed I am 98% sure.

Thanks everyone I think I have settled on Poke Salad (sallett) as Kenny and my nosy neighbor both said that was what they thought it was I googled it and sure enough it looks just like what I have. Billie and her family cut up and fried the stem we had always ate it but ours did not look like this one does. JunieGirl the web site also said Native Americans made paint out of the berries and the berries were used in ink and for paint.

That looks like the weed I get in my garden that someone told me was called night shade. it's very invasive here and can get very large. I rip every single one out that i see!
