Just came across this delightful site yesterday! We're looking forward to many future visits. We live in southwest Oklahoma where it is mostly hot and dry. Thankfully we have lots of trees so most of our flower beds are in partial to full shade. Any suggestions for different plants?

Thanks for the welcome, Cricket. As ground cover we have vinca, english ivy and lirope. As for shrubs we have quince, forsythia, privet, althea, crape myrtle, junipers, lilac, loropetalum, nandina, spirea, weigela. We have lots of bulbs (tulips, daffodils, crocus, day lilies, asiatic lilies, irises, lily of the valley, narcissus. We also have carnations, daisies, mums, old fashioned violets, zinnia, columbines, marigolds, sedums, bunches of four o'clocks...to mention just a few. Also have an herb garden and a veggie plot. By the way, we have about a 10' x 15' patch of Bermuda grass which is all I have to mow...the rest is all flower beds.

Really need some ideas for color during the lot hot summer, since most of our stuff is spring or fall blooming.

Many thanks,elderbeast

gosh! it sounds like you already have a very lush yard. sounds so pretty just reading about it!
try coping and pasting your question, along with your zone(we have a zone map on the home page if your unsure) in.....?????....landscapes trial forum, or ...just look at the forum topic headings and choose one. You should get more responses there. be patient, though. the forums are slowing down a bit this time of year. Oh and we love to look at pic's. gotta post pics using a photo website. I use photobucket, but I understand there are others.

I live at Fort Hood TX. If you want color, heat resistance, and color, try a Firebush. It also attracts hummingbirds and butterflies. They love the sun and when they get droopy, just give them some water!!
