I have the hugest toadstool I've ever seen in my yard. I mean it is as wide as my foot and I wear a size 11 shoe.

Which leads me to ask. Is it ok to have toadstools in the lawn? Will they cause problems or anything? I have quite a few. Only one that is humungous but the rest are respectively sized as well. Not all are the same kind.

What volunteers do you have in your garden?

all i know is that when you see a mushroom, it's sort of the 'flower' of the organism. i think it means the spores have germinated in the lawn and grew to maturity. if you leave the mushroom long enough, it'll release spores as well.

for some reason i have lots of malva seedlings in the lawn. I'm thinking its because i seeded some malva last fall, then when i was spreading lawn seeds i ran out of top soil so i dug a shovelful from the bed lol

When weeding, the best way to make sure you are removing a weed and not a valuable plant is to pull on it. If it comes out of the ground easily, it is a valuable plant. Mary Ann LaPensee

Did you transplant them into your bed?

you know what? i should shouldn't I? i didn't think about that lol I've been reading mixed things about these being perennials, annuals or just reseeding annuals. I already have a small patch that I got from my uncle in a pot this spring. I also found what I think is a pulmonaria (lungwort) right at the edge of the lawn in front o the fence with the neightbour. They have some but on the other side of their yard. I'm going to let it see if it can get through this winter then I'll transplant it if I can.

Malva for me are annuals and they didn't reseed at all. But then I was working with clay.

Pulmonaria (lungwort)is that the one that looks like a primrose? Those are really pretty. And if they are anything like the primrose they transplant well as long as they are left in the shade.

I'm working with clay too. I found that after I came back from Quebec, I found lots of sprouts. Malva, Hollyhocks, nigella, nasturtiums, calendula, amaranthus etc. I guess direct seeding them and watering them for two weeks wasn't enough to get them to sprout.

Yup, they sorta look like primrose. Also known as betheleham sage, or lungwort. Not in the primrose family, but borage family. Good to know they need the shade. I was planning on moving it to the fun sun bed...live saver Tammy!!!

if it's not primrose related I don't know what location they would do well in. You'll have to look it up Kenny. Sorry I confused you. I have a hard time being clear.
