my Kodak AIO printer has stopped printing, like so many others of its brand has. I am told the compzny will readily send out new printwer heads--but is this a big deal---computer inept does not weven begin to describe me.

I wish I could help you out Carol but unfortunately I don't know anything about Kodak printers. Hopefully they are good to you and everything works out!! Your printer is not very old, is it?

sorry---I am so mixed up I didn't realize I had stopped in the middle of the question. I was wondering if it was invciked to change the print heads or if it is merely a software issue?/ I cannot sit at my computer yet so I have not called them as of yet. This is my DD's laptop I am on now.

Well, have you had problems with other ones in the past? if so it's likely a software issue on the computer... :shrug:

personnally I have not had issues with MY Kodak AIO but I researched this printer before I bought it--and bad printer heads was a frequent problem. But in every instance it was stated that the company came thru and the problem was corrected...so we shall see.

Well, if it's been OTHER printers as well, it's likely a PC problem... Only real way to check is to try it on another computer

I think she meant that when she did research she found that other people with this same model printer have had the same problem. So, it is likely a problem with that specific printer. I think she wants to know if changing the printer heads is a big deal. Am I correct Carol?

Ahh, then I missunderstood ;)... Well, if the symptoms match what you've researched, then it's likely it's the printer itself being a pile of crap ;)...

You know, it makes them no money to use quality parts so your printer lasts forever... hence why they make crap so you have to replace it!

yes unfortunately I agree with you.--the bad news is I will have to wait until after Christmas to have the money to replace it if they do not stand behind their product. I will hope they do fix it.

I think AOL Hometown is where people can create a small homepage on AOL's servers (I believe they give you something like 12mb space)

I might have done that sometime ago. I guess after I did it I never went back because I sure don't remember it. Anyway, it's gonna be gone now.

My lexmark all in one went on the bum.
The will that pulls the ink cart. around jumped the tracks, then I foud out the spring jumped off too. Then I found out the spring holder is broke in half an the other end is ??????

Now I set withoout a 3 in one lexamard.
The other free lexmark printer will only print in black..
Put a color in, it doesnt recognize it ??

Anyone know any thing besides, number one is a flop?

Most printers are fairly inexpensive now so it is not worth fixing them. Sorry to hear it broke Barb!

Your correct..Cost more to haul it in to the shop.
Mad part is ONe year old this month.........Horrible.

About needing the scanner Barb, You will have to answer that question yourself.

I myself only use the scanner occasionally BUT I love having the copier part.

I have heard.. that HP has a good copier/scanner/printer, and that it is inexpensive.

well if your machine hasw a copier you use it just like you would at say a copier you have at a school or at say the post office. You lift up the 'lid' and place what youwant copied on the glass screen, where indicated, and then close the lid and push the button---presto, a copy comes out. saves one a trip to town to get a copy and pay for it.

yes they are. but they have slightly different processing mechanisms. the best machines have learned how to unify them

a copier just makes a "copy" of your paper right there. it does not go into your computer as a scanned documednt does.

yes, and yes. you are right carol. in old copiers, they did not have built in soft ware to "send" the image to the computer. now, most do. but they still require a computer connection card to do that. spitting out a paper copy is easier.

and dodge, we use hp printers, but our scanner/copiers are kyocera (very large)

it does a lot. scans, copies, staples, sorts, even emails.

Heres a secret for you...

All machines will fail. No one uses anything of quality. They want the hardware to fail... HOWEVER they want the hardware to fail AFTER the 1 year warranty ends... Why? So you have to buy a new one, hopefully from them...

So, they put the BEST features you could want, at the lowest cost to them, and hope it lasts more than the warranty, and hope you liked the hardware enough to want to buy a NEW one from them...

Only business products can be worth it to buy, why? they're meant to last, because they know businesses will replace things regardless of if they need to or not...

BTW, most places will require you to pay shipping for an RMA, it peeves me off.. When I RMA something I try for an advanced RMA, it's where they mail you the item BEFORE you mail them anything; but it requires a creditcard to do as you could technically rip them off...

A standard RMA can take months to complete, at least an advanced RMA ensures that you'll have something to use lol...

BTW, right now, I don't even have a working printer... I'd kill for a decent 2 tray all in one printer, preferably one capable of printing images; but I have other things I need to save for prior to that hehe...

Back to my Kodak all-in-one printer----and its not printing---

first let me remind you that at the end of August we put new ink in the printer--both black and color cartridges.....

so today I bit the bullet and called them. Well a guy who was definatly NOT americanm, and said his name was Jerimiah--(not) was my technician--he was having me go thru & do things.-finally we hung up because I could notgethte printer head loose.

so 30 seconds later I find the head was in a "cradle" of sorts and it came right out--so I call back--I swear the same "guy" answered the phoine BUJt said his name was :Jimmy'--once again not--I do not think anyone in India is named either Jimmy or Jerimiah. so he finally ask me to print--and the oinfo box on my computewr screen said be sure the pribter was on. so he says disonnect it an re co9nnect it--I did nad now it will not turn on nor turn off.

this idiot is still sending me new ink--gee how can I put new ink in a machine thst will not turn on??? I said this to the guy--he said gee if it does not work they will send me a new printer. well-------
a) I figure it will likley be a re-built printer,(this one was new last januray)
b) do I really want another Kodak??? after all of this I wonder......

Just thought I would give you all an update.

Thanks to the Kodak Technician My printer, that at least printed in color, does not even turn on now---
and while the 'survey' came finally last week, my ink has not.

I think monday it is time to call Kodak back.--I really need a printer.

I had to trash my 200 dollar lexmark which was one year old.
Heck with lexy.
2 lexy and the other only prints in black now too.. But it was free after rebates.

Also I was buying ink from a refill place.. Someone said that is a no no.

I ended up after much adue about nothing..........That is what they are worth . Nothing ..
Took some advice and bought a HP with cheap cartridges, and for $99. without all the bells and whistles.....Well hubby bought it for my birthday.

They are made to last one year.. As long as the warranty is.

So basically I spend my Christmas Money on a printer every year--great....

You know...some can be good printers. I have an HP All-In-One printer that I have had for 7 years and it still works!! I guess it just depends!

I had a Lexmark for years that worked great. When we bought this computer last year we got a HP with it and foolishly gave away the Lexmark. I've had nothing but trouble with this HP.

i am taking my hp back 2 maro..If they will take it .

I finally called Kodak back yesterday.---I got a person who spoke better english this time,---and after asking me to do the same things several times----he decided that I get a different printer....

Now----That is the good news. the bad news is I bought a new printer, and I am going to receive a rebuilt one.---but at least this way, hopefully it might actually work.

James, I wrote down the info about the HP that you told TKHooper about.----I know for sure when it it time for a new printer...HP is the way I am going to go.---
several people I know have one, and are more than pleased..

I returned mine and bought me a more reliable , Epson.
