It is a perennial, it comes back bigger every year. This year I dug it up as it was overtaking my entire garden! (it is planted in the veggie garden now)

The petals look like snow when they fall to the ground. It is very pretty, but I wish I knew what it was!

The leaves on your plant look like some on one of my fancy lilacs - do the flowers have a fragrance?

Persicaria polymorpha it is, A very hardy zone 3 none invasive plant. very pretty.
