I have a gerbera daisy outside in a hanging basket. It has been flowering almost constantly since I bought it in May, in fact it has three new flowers coming out. Can this plant be kept indoors for the winter, how should I care for it? Thanks for any information!
They can be overwintered as houseplants or allowed to do dormant in a cool spot. They prefer cooler temps to bloom, but also lots of sun, so if you choose to grow it as a houseplant it will need a sunny window away from heating vents. If you decide to let it go dormant (not my choice), put it in a cool room and water very little. It will lose most or all of it's leaves , maybe even die back completely. Then next year start watering it again and set it in a sunny spot.
I'm thinking I would love some of these vibrant flowers in my garden. Do you have a source for the seeds or however they are sprouted? Thanks for the info in advance.
Hello and thank you all for your help. I will bring in and try to keep it going over the winter. The flowers are bright orange and I would love to see it survive to bloom again next year. I don't know if there are seeds, I bought as a grown plant.
No things have been happening around here faster than I can keep up with. I'm just worn out.
The gerber daisy's are expensive seeds so I'll do without. The list of things I need that I can't afford for the house is already long enough without adding flowers to the list.
But, my garden is on the "10 year plan" so maybe down the road I'll be able to do something.
