Slow day at the feeders yesterday, except for the House Sparrows. They were rather cute trying to reach the suet, so, I started taking pictures.
MAYBE IF I STRETCH I CAN REACH IT
OK......Maybe if I REALLY stretch and flap my wing I can reach it.
At this point I heard a LOUD ripping sound and a *SNAP!!!*, followed by the most most blood-curdling, heart-breaking, anguished screeching and saw this....
I gotta put the suet a little lower I think.
Kingdoms RAGE and go to war...but the PEasants plant potatoes..
EARTH FIRST! (we'll strip-mine the OTHER planets later.)
Naw, look at the bottom picture. The poor bird stretched SO hard, he ripped his leg right out of his body. You can see it next to him still grasping the branch.

Shirley, that's a deceptive picture. What APPEARS to be his ripped out leg is a twig attached to the main branch. Both of his legs are in the picture. Just one of the legs is mostly hidden by his tail. I didn't notice the effect until I processed the picture. I laughed myself sick and invented a story to go with it.
