DSL is fickle, the closer you are to their center the faster speeds you'll get... You'd really need to contact them to make sure it's available... And yes, it'd probably be more reliable and faster than the other.
If you'd like to learn more about my family and I, you can do so at Corthell.net [corthell.net]!
I have to work up some gumption ......... See what I like about the service I have, when my computer has problems , it is a phone call away.Free and they walk me thru it .
I have GREAT....FREE technical support when I need it. They have helped me with a LOT of problems. I have had my DSL for about 4 years now. I use it everyday. HECK! I'm using DSL, RIGHT NOW!!!

And yes, they sent me a modem, phone filters, and antennas for two other computers in my house. That way, THREE of us can be on the internet, AT THE SAME TIME! And not only that, we can talk on the phone, WHILE WE ARE ON THE INTERNET!!! It is GREAT. I can listen to almost ANY radio station, IN THE WORLD, for free. Most radio stations broadcast on the internet as well as over the airwaves. I was listening to an Albanian radio station the other day. Then I listened to a radio station in the Netherlands. Then I listened to one of the local stations in my town, over the internet. I can also create and run my own radio station over the internet for FREE if I want to. NO license required.

I have Verizon DSL. They sent me everything I needed, modem, filters......It was a little confusing for me at first trying to set it all up alone, but when I got stuck I just called them and they were great!
It's so much faster Barb, and it's so nice to have the phone free too. I really think you should call them and check into going for it! You'd enjoy it so much more.
Truly. I wouldn't go back to dial up now even if someone offered me $1,000,000. The difference is amazing! A game that used to take me two hours to download now takes me 2-3 minutes. And I just have the slower DSL.
all I know is I have a littlew blasckbox with colored lights oin it sitting on the compouter desk, that is attached to the computer.
I do remmeber them advertising that if you needed it they would priovide a free modum. what does the company say they will provide??? oftwen a lot of the extra things you need is given free to eni=tice people to sign on.
when you call to ask questions they should tell you all of the stuff they will provide.

Your all correct ......However your all in town where they attach the extra line.......The cable line is not in my driveway........It is 400 feet away.
Which creates a problem.. I would have to pay them to put down whatever it takes to get the line to my phone box here......
have you called the company and see what they say you would have to do or waht they might charge to install the DSL for you, barb??? if you had all the facts, from the hpsese mouth so so speak, you could make and informed decision.--and it would cost n othign to ask. I called several times before I made my decision. people call and ask questions all the time.

Barb, Loz is right. That is one of the reasons they are there--to answer people questions. If it would help you feel better expalin that you are curious how it works and want ot know what you would have to do IF you were to want to have the DSL internet. So you and your Husband could sit down and decide waht you want to do.
They will not expect you to take any service until you call and set up a date for them to come out and install.
Asking questions is free. it commits you to nothing. As I have said I called several times to ask questions before I actually called and ask them to come out and install my DSL.

Believe me, you don't want to be the last one on the cable line. We are and have trouble all the time. Everytime someone comes here they say "you're the last one on the line. It's got something to do with the connection." We pay for high speed internet but it's not high speed for us.
what does DSL mean anyway. I don't know the difference between them anyway.
I don't think you are understanding my situration.
The cable is COmcast , I think or cable tv.......My phone company is Verizon.
My internet server is pennswoods
The cable comes up the road to the neighbors down below. Quits ? Whose? TO get to my house from the highway is 400 ft away. There is no cable from the highway to my house.
Just who lays it ? ANd who pays it ?
Not a pretty picture. Then what if I some day want CamConn, and quit that dsl.. Hubby would go beserk.
I do not know the rules of your company that would be providing the DSL thru the phone company. what I am saying is call and find out what the fees would be and who pays for what, so that instead of your wondering what all of this would cost, and how much trouble you would have, you would know, because you had asked the company.
I do understand that there is a distance to be breached. perhaps the cost would be up to you, perhaps not, each company is different. ..all I am saying is ask. to ask is free. Then you would have all the proper information and you and your DH could make an informed decision.
I also think it would not hurt to call the direct TV people or look online at their web site, assuming they have one, to see if they offer any internet service. It is a possibility. IT would not hurt to call and ask them either. That too is free.

dodge, that's how we were when we first moved here. The cable access stopped at the house next door. I had dial up, which was slow. We also had Dish Satellite for TV and a local phone company for phones. We called the cable company several times asking to be added and after many years they came and put up a few more poles and we were offered Time Warner Cable, so we hooked up to RoadRunner cable service and eventually went to Time Warner Cable TV and phones. But as I say, it's not fast, maybe a little faster than dial up, and the customer service is horrible. Remember they pulled the siding off my house. Verizon doesn't have a computer option for us right now but I understand it's coming and I will switch ASAP.
My mom and friends have Time Warner Cable RoadRunner and their computers are speedy. You turn them on and they're automatically on. You click a site and it's there. Mine is not like that. We've had it checked a lot of times and they always say "you're last on the line. It's the connection."

dsl comes in on the phone line. if you have a phone it your house, they should not charge you for upgrading the wires to your house. only inside. and most will waive that if you keep the dsl service at least 6 months. (some want a year though).
that is the question to ask the phone people. if they say they don't have the digital lines except up to 400 feet from your house, that's their problem, they are trying to sell you a bill of goods. it's over 200 feet from my house to the road. they paid, not me.
cable internet (the other broadband, although if you believe the cables companies, the only) comes in on the coax cable into your house. if you already have cable tv (not satellite like dish or direct) then it is the same. the cable is already in your house, and they just have to upgrade their lines. same thing. if the digital lines stops at the road (400 feet away) it is up to them to get it to you, not you to get to them. again, a bill of goods. hope this helps.
if it is satellite, that is a whole ball of wax i don't know much about.
Some places do the free line though Barb, did you call Verizon and ask them if you could get it? If not you really should. That's how you get them to do it, keep complaining about not having it.
I said I do not have cable..........Its 400 feet away.
I have direct tv the dish..........
Till a miracle happens......I will be dialup.
I hear Ya Loud and clear Dodge,, I just called Direct TV ( I have Direct tv too),,,,, They said you can get direct TV in your House high speed internet,, Thru Hughes there is a 800 number to call,, I can PM it to you if you want it, and Use a promo code for a discount( I have that too),, It starts out a little costly to get it going but you'll be pleased with the results,!
This requires NO cable or lines to your Home at all, Only an Internet dish! facing south!
"Grace without perfection is more to be desired than perfection without grace."
I do not want direct tv high speed internet.....Dang thing is 52 dollars now. an we hate it. I dont want.....the price doesnt satisfy me .. $$$$$$$$$$ for what? high society computer and tv......LOL
Please for get it and do not call.. I am a dial up person for 12.50 a month if I take it by the year..
