The last coffee house has been unused and left all dusty for a couple of days and was nearly full. I felt a new Monday called for a spanking new, fresh one. I am a slow starter today. But I am started.

Morning Tina and Loz.... I am up too -was up early... but Mom slept in so I didn't get an early start... still not to ambitious to start anything- did take out the chicken to thaw so can get it cooked up... have to start a stew too... get some meals done for the freezer...
I was supposed to have the boys today but 3 of the 4 woke up sick today,so she is staying home with them... Jon took them to Pueblo yesterday for his Aunts birthday- let them play outside with no coats on-- well they all have colds today I guess...
Well off to get the last load of laundry in and see what I can get accomplished today...
I know all of the experts say that getting cold doesn't cause colds but as a mother of five I say "phooey!". I believe getting cold or wet causes your immune system to weaken and colds take hold more readily. That and kids get that little runny nose in the cold and their hands are all up into their faces. I feel about the same way about the experts on teething not causing ear infections. More "phooey!". I am cooking for multiple meals today too. We seem to be eating a lot less meat these days. That is good for the budget.

Yes I agree with you too... getting wet and cold does lower your resistance to the "bugs" and kids have a lot of exposure to those things at schools...I think the thing with ear infections and teething is they drool a lot when teething and it comes from the mouth - more moisture there more in the throat and ears too... good growing medium for those wonderful infections.... just my own theory.......
we eat a lot more chicken now too and fish... little bit of red meat once every couple weeks.... even started using ground turkey a lot mixed with the ground beef... hubby hasn't realized that one yet.... LOL! I can't taste the differece and have been doing it for a long time..... Nana
I imagine your hubby can't taste the difference either or he would have let you know by now, Nana! I haven't used ground turkey yet. I know a lot of people do though. We should start eating less beef. I use ground beef in a lot of meals. I know it isn't the best for us. But....when I come home from work it is something easy to cook and make a hotdish.
I use way too much ground beef. We eat a lot of taco's, and I use it in lasagna and spaghetti, and cheeseburgers, and all kids of dishes. We rarely ever buy pork, that's something I'd like to cook more of this winter.....
Been out shopping with mom this morning....had some lunch there and geez, it's already 3pm.
I've started buying more ground turkey. you can get it SO much cheaper than ground beef (at some stores). I use the ground turkey for dishes like tacos, spaghetti...any dish that I'm gonna season up so much you can't tell the difference anyway. speaking of head colds. I have one today. I feel great, but its really annoying with the constant nose blowing and coughing. I'm not so sure it is the actual cold and wet weather that gets us sicky in the winter. I have this theory about the cold fronts that come in blow pollen and crape from areas farther away that we are not used to???? (idk....just my own theory)

Head colds are horrible- I take lots of airborne when the kids are having colds - and wash down everything with clorox wipes- I like your theory too , could very well be bringing us far away germs and such too we aren't immune to like our own local stuff... I know I am a lot more careful now at the stores - wipe down grocery carts and and such with wipes... Nana
- wipe down grocery carts and and such with wipes... Nana
reminds me of when my kidos were wee little. I'd wipe down the shopping carts too cause they would literally sit in that little seat and chew and slobber on the handle!
we've been getting some nice slow rain most of the day and even now. I know my garden is LOVING it! :ding:

My grocery store has Clorox wipes right inside the doors for using on the carts. Those with large signs saying to do so. I woulddn't mind finding a huge container of those wipes like they use. Yep. Every kid will suck away on those handles. I have absolutely nothing else to say. I am just getting up from a light nap. I needed the stretch.

About the ground beef noit being healthy. If you use the higher grade ground beef, 96-97% meat, the powers that be at weight watchers say it is just as healthy as using ground turkey.
as a result I never use anthing else. And if I am in a store that does not grade its meat this way, I buy ground round. it is the same difference.
and I like the idea of clorox wipes for carts. My Valarie got measles when she was 9 months old. it had to be from a shopping cart. no one around her, our family, friends etc, had the disease. The only other place we had takern her was a store. I took wipes with me forever after as long as the girls were young enough to go in a cart.

Life isn't about how to survive the storm, but how to dance in the rain!! .....
I've heard that before, it's not a nice term although I'm sure Cricket didn't realize what it really means. Here they use the term with the word porch in front of monkey.
Showered, just sitting down and enjoying a little TV. It's getting COLD tonight, down in the 20's. Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.
Someone send me to Australia where summer is getting ready to start!!!!! If I could hibernate like a bear thru winter I would. Honestly I would.
You guys have completely lost me -- I've never heard that term before in any context before Cricket's post. When I read it, I grinned, visuallizing all the little children climbing, running and jumping everywhich way possible.
Anyway, Maxi never chewed on the handle of the grocery cart although he DID chew on the rail of his crib. At that point he only had one little bottom tooth and he scratched the rail all along it. When I saw all the bite marks I asked him "What, was there a tiger in bed with you last night?" and he laughed. (I think he reacted to my tone of voice rather than comprehending the words because he was so small).
It is FREEZY cold here too, loz!
Last night I could NOT get warm and got up again at midnight to turn the heat up higher and got an extra blanket for my bed! Finally got to sleep around 2 once I warmed up well. I can't sleep if I'm cold.
I have a busy day today, so I'll be in and out.
Merme
We were given two hands to hold, two eyes to see, two ears to listen & two legs to walk. But why were we given only one heart? The other heart was given to another for us to find.
Not a term that I have ever heard. I envisioned something similar to Merme's vision. I woke in a little panic and went to wake Jonni. Then remembered just as I was waking her that it is a school holiday. She will be annoyed with me later. I will be going off to work however.

Oh I remember when my mom would wake me when it was a school holiday!! Very frustrating for a teenager. But...she will get over it, Tina!! Our schools are not closed for Veterans Day. Some are closed though because we had freezing rain overnight.
It is so cold and gray here, it looks like we will get snow.
I hope Maxi's dad remembered to take the boys to buy their boots with the cash I gave for the task.
I am doing laundry in hopes of getting the apt to warm up some. Otherwise, I'd be baking!
If I wasn't so cold, I'd be working on cleaning out my freezer. It needs to be emptied and scrubbed down completely before I refill it on Friday. But I'm so chilly right now I can't even think of putting my hands in there!
Merme

I don't have school today. It's really cold;the high temps are in the 60s and lows in the 40s. The weatherman said that it will get back into the 80s soon.

Oh Enrique!! I wish it were that "cold" here. 60's would feel good right about now. It was 20 when I got up this morning and is about 30 right now.
I just figured out why my apt won't warm up. The a/c in Maxi's window has a gap on the left side of about 4 inches between it and the frame! I can't get to where it is to remedy it and no one who can will be here til the weekend. So all I could do for now was shut his bedroom door.
No wonder I've been freezing, though, sitting in the fresh breeze from his room!

Mark FINALLY took the AC out of our bedroom window. That always helps cut down on the draft. We have a big one in our kitchen window that does the downstairs and it has quite the draft coming thru it.....It can't be removed as it's too big. Every winter I say I'm going to get a cover for it and I never do. I think this year maybe I should look into that.
And you know, I know Cricket didn't mean anything by that term.....I think a lot of people haven't heard of it.
I had a nice lunch at moms today. Chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy, cabbage, carrots and peas. Have to run downtown soon and pick up my meds....then I'll probably have a nice hot coffee.
It was so windy here the past few days that it seems all the leaves disappeared from the trees overnight. I never like the look of the mountains all bare. But each spring it seems so miraculous when they bud up again and leaf out.
Might do some of my online class for a bit until I run downtown.
Well, the breeze from Maxi's room kept popping his door back open, so I used some yarn to tie it shut by stringing the yarn from his doorknob across the hall to the linen closet door knob. It works pretty well EXCEPT that now there is a doorknob high string across the entrance to the bathroom!
But I experimented and discovered I can duck under it to get into the bathroom although it would be impossible to get back out! So... I'm going to have to think of something else before the next time I need to go! I can't keep cutting and retying string all day and night!
Loz ~let me know what you find out when you look into those a/c covers. I have often wondered about them! Usually someone takes ours out of the windows, but it isn't always possible to find someone in a timely manner.
And Ms. Loz... you didn't just have a "nice" lunch at Mom's today; you had an Enviable lunch! Pass me a plate, please oh please.
Merme *hungry for some of Mom's cooking*

Not envious of your weather Jess. Be safe on the way home.
Merme, I've often wondered about the covers---they have to be better than nothing I figure. I'll let you know.
Lunch was FANTASTIC! I was the smart child that moved across the street so I got lots of moms cooking.
BTW, I'm so PO'd with my pharmacy. It's a small, town pharmacy which I utilized because it's so near and because you'd think it would be better than a big one like CVS or Walmart. WRONG. I will not go there again after tomorrow. My prescription wasn't in because they called in the wrong type of my med. I have none for today. Unacceptable. Places make mistakes but there have been one too many from this place. I guess I'll switch back to CVS or maybe Walmart. Ugh.
And I'm not much of a complainer but really, they just make me so mad down there.
Loz, my local pharmacy can't keep a decent pharmacist employed there and the number of hassles are increasing tremendously. It is the only pharmacy in my town so you know I am looking forward to moving where I'll have more choices -- AND more reliable service!
And you are right: it is NOT acceptable for you to be without your meds!
Jess ~ I am not looking forward to having your kind of weather soon! I am so hoping ours stays off for just a bit. I need to get ice melty stuff and sand for the porch & steps. Plus, Maxi needs a new snow shovel. Our porch becomes a skating rink if we don't keep up with it properly. Sometimes even if we do!
I hope it is a safe drive home for you, Jess.

My girls never chewed on the carts either, but I guess Valarie DID hold onto the handle bar and at some point she must have put her hand into her mouth??
I HATE cold weather, too.

Wipes hadn't even been invented when I was a kid 50 years ago. It's a wonder how any of us survived without wipes, wipe warmers, or all the other paraphenalia that's been supplied to us since then....
My kid was clean enough to be healthy and messied up enough to be happily at play without worry.
I'm still cold tonight, even with the door firmly shut, having run the clothes dryer AND having had some hot chocolate!
Mebbe I shouldda put some rum in it!

merme, i'm cold with you. i'm in bed, under 3 blankets, with a heating pad (auto shut off). of course, having pneumonia might have something to do with it if it isn't one thing, it's another.

you didn't miss it carol. it wasn't public. i was sick, but just made it to the dr today because of the trip. and since i've been either working or sick or both for so long, not a lot of people talk to me anymore. just a core group that answers me back like you!

I meant yard monkey in exactly that way. and yes, I've heard the other derogatory term with the word porch in it, but would never say such a thing. hope I didn't start any big hoopla. I haven't read all the posts yet. I'm just getting back on here since I said it. cricket is no trouble maker.

cricket, you are NOT a trouble maker. and your phrase is much nicer (especially with merme's context) than my mother's. she called children (particularly unruly ones) "house apes"
Knew you didn't mean anything bad Cricket......don't worry about.
I just finished off a big Aero bar, my last one that I meant to share with you Jiffy---I forgot about it. No, really I did. I hid it so I wouldn't eat it...then when you were here I forgot. So I ate it.
