The shamrock bulbs that I was given for doing the spring Fling are starting to sprout. It's so cute. It looks like a fuzzy baby octopus with purple arms with white underarms.

I've never grown them before and don't know a thing about them. Can someone fill me in. I have no idea how to find our fact sheet pages anymore.

i'm sorry Dodge but I dropped the camera once too often and it doesn't work anymore. All I can tell you is that it is a wine color in it's infancy. I don't know if that changes with maturity or not.

I am so lucky. I have it in the perfect spot. And I've been keeping it moist.

So far 4 of them have popped up.

The term shamrock is just used freely there are over 800,different kinds all over the world.Yours colors make me think of the Oxalis same family and care is the same. Most shamrocks like full sun but cool temps.Keep cool at night 75 degrees or lower even 65 degrees is ok.Direct sun is important for good flowering and if it to tall between pot and plant tops then you need more sun don't worry about temps during the day, night time is when they need a rest.Fertilize only during growing season.Keep soil barely moist, and if yellowing begins then you are giving to much water. You will have a dormant time from 1 to 3 months depending on what kind you have. And lastly after the dormant time repot and divide.Good luck. And if you ever want to grow them under water in a fish tank just let me know. It's fun.

they'll grow underwater huh? That's fasinating news. Yes, I'm sure they are the Oxalis. They came in from another country so reading the box wasn't an option for me. I've tried learning other languages but it just isn't one of my talents.

Another one sprouted overnight. It sounds like I'm going to have to keep them infront of the air conditioner this summer. It stays in the 80 and 90 here during the summer.

Good thread! I LOVE Shamrocks and have quite a few myself. Dodge, you seem to know a lot about them. Next time I have a question, I know where to go!

During the day they can take heat but at night they need to be cool.As for water growing most will only grow on the water surface.Mine is called Marsiea Quadrifolia it will grow planted in a tank.Very easy to grow great if you never grew aquatic plants before. They take low light and I mean low like I've grown them with a 1.5 watt bulb in an 18inch deep tank! They handle almost any water condition,I don't think they grow in salt water. It will spread like a carpet if you don't keep it under control.Better yet you don't need a co2 system to grow this one.If you want short plants give it more light if not it will grow taller its all about tank size and depth.

My shamrocks have finally opened their leaves. They are green with purple centers. Interesting looking. And as I said earlier the stems are furry.

Egads I overwatered and killed them. That's what I get for putting them on a high shelf where I couldn't see what I was doing. Fudge.

tk

You didnt kill them......Just let them dry out now, they play hide and seek quite a bit ......
Just when you think they are dead, up they come again.. Your better of letting them not so wet..
Mine are all lovely.......And seem to pop up everywhere.

The soil soured so I'm not going to hold out much luck but I'll give it a try. I'll be gone all next week so they should have plenty of time to dry out.
