I've never grown it; guess you need a large property for that. Do you have a few acres there?

Should be interesting to see how that goes. In Australia most of the sugar cane is grown up in Queensland; quite a warm climate. Guess it's pretty warm where you are?

sugar cane grows well in my area too. I have a few stalks of it. you really have to have a machine to squeeze the sugar out of the cane. I'm sure he just planted it for the novelty of it. it is a nice big tropical looking plant. you can also chew on it.

That's why he planted it! I don't like eating sugar cane; I got a splinter in my mouth once from eating it. I would rather boil it in some water and extract the sugar.

you have to "skin" it before boiling if you boil it to get the sugar. and the sugar isn't white on the first boiling. but it tastes good. just be careful. it has laxative qualities if you drink the juice.

My fam. use to grow thousands of acres, some years it was very bad on the fields, the only way to get labor help was to do a "controll burning" too many bad snakes and bugs to work in it. Try skining it and cut it in small bite size pcs.
