Hello everybody ! I'm the flowers collector and hybridizer from Kaunas (Lithuania, Europe). I hope I will find many friends here! My favourite flowers: glads, dahlias, daylilies, irises, tulips.
Hi Vivasvat, welcome to the forum. I love tulips too. That doesn't mean I am any good at growing them, though! Here, we are mainly growing plants that can cope with dry weather- we've had a drought for about 11 years.
Hi Vivasvat welcome to the family! I love glads but I have to dig up the corms every year so I end up buying a ton of new corms every year

When weeding, the best way to make sure you are removing a weed and not a valuable plant is to pull on it. If it comes out of the ground easily, it is a valuable plant. Mary Ann LaPensee
May be, this name is to good for me - Vivasvat in the indian mythology is one of gods, which, like Prometeus, presented for the people fire. I don't love fire, but my garden is flaming by flowers...
just wanted to offer a very warm welcome in something close to your native tongue. i know just a little polish, ukranian and lithuanian (which is my background on my mother's side). as much as i wanted to learn when i was a child (which is the best time to learn language) my family didn't promote it.
when they came here from the 'old country' they tried to leave what they could behind and meld into the american culture. that included learning english and using it, instead of their native language. they would only use their original language when talking about something they didn't want the kids to know about.
i'd finally convinced my great-grandmother to start teaching me when i was 18 - she died when i was 19, though, so we hadn't gotten very far.
they were more interested in passing on the food/recipes. which is okay with me - some really excellent dishes go along with the culture! besides what little 'official' bit we did when i was older, i picked up enough during the marathon pierogi making to be able to get the gist of a conversation. i'm more than a bit rusty, now though.
your english is very good!! and your flowers are fabulous!!
