nope not a southern place, Loz--we have them all over here--it is kinda like steak & shake place only they sell fish dinners & such---


and Loz---I told Valarie if she wanted a shopping partner I was available---she lied to me & said gee I think am just gonna get up and go then go home & go back to bed---when in reality she had plans to go with her MIL and was trying to get her DH to go along too---now why couldn't she just be honest with me????

I am seriously considereing going by myself..................... :wink:

Oh Carol, you truly should! Even if you don't have someone to go with you feel a sort of bond with all of these other crazy women that are out and about early. So many good deals to be had!

Hmmmm, I guess that it's a bigger city kind of place then. I am pretty rural here. Biggest city in our county is 30,000 people.

It'll be my brothers FIRST black friday. He wanted to chicken out but he said if he did I'd probably kick his butt. And he's right. He's going and he's going to like it.

Merme, I'd like to pop in Sears for their 9.99 Nintendo DS games but I'm not sure if we're hitting the mall yet or not. We may.... FYE is in the mall and they have B1G1 free on their Webkinz.

The town I live in is only like 1,000 people--we are rural as well.

The town where Valarie & Emily live is a bit under 26,000 and the town between us is like 25,000. The last town is where I would do most of my shopping.

If I do not go tomorrow I will definately go on saturday. :wink:

I got a Halmark e-mail last night, and they are having a sale today (bif surprise)--and since I need a few things from there, I guess I just as well get it cheaper, right???

But apparently they will not open up for about 1 hr, so I waited and I will go here in a bit.


I would love to be a mouse and follow Loz & entourage around today.

I have a friend who does the huge shopping entourage after thanksgiving. They buy everything they need today. Every year. Power shopping she calls it! LOL
In my defense, I have NEVER liked to shop.

Loz usually shares pics of her Black Friday shopping excursion so we can all be flies of sorts. That is fun too.

Meeeee either,,,,, I really wanted to go to walmart this morning @ 5 Oh,, I was UP,, and ready to go,, But I just couldn't make myself get out there and join the ridiculous crowds and standing in line, I missed an excellent sale on a camera but Ohhhhhhh well,,,, It wasn't the exact one I wanted anyway,, and I was going to be settling on it, , So I just have to wait, No big deal,,

I have friends, one couple, who waits until the day after Christmas to buy Christmas. Seems odd but they get great stuff for practically nothing. They don't have children so they don't worry about Santa.

I used to scrape and save for after Christmas sales as much as for the day itself. Then shop for stuff for my kids B-days and things. But the sales I have seen the last few years are not nearly what they used to be. Except for holiday themed items.
I am waiting for Loz to come home and share her adventures. And her brother's first BF.

I think by the end of the morning Paul was quite ready to go home! Although he told me just now he didn't mind it too bad. Our Walmart was 5x more crowded than usual and that's saying a lot because it's crowded every year anyway. I guess people really want to save money this year. Although it seems like every other person had a tv in their cart.

I'm relaxing right now, but later when I go up to wrap I will let you all know what I got. I'm sooooooooo tired. Mom called at 4am and I hopped right out of bed. I didn't lay there for one second. I could do that every morning, it was so much fun!

I got everything I wanted except for 2 things. A coffeepot and Webkinz. I got a LOT of stuff. And I came home with a whopping $8. $4 I owe to my best friend because she got me I am Legend from Target.

Sooooooooooooooo, when I have energy I will post more. For now just know that we made it out and about and home and we're all still alive.

I went shopping this morning and I am exhausted!! I got up at 3 am and left my house at 3:30. I was home from shopping by 8. I got TONS of stuff!! I would take pictures and show it to all of you but I had to get everything hidden away before James and Tristen got out of bed! I got some great deals and enjoyed myself!! I am have lots to do anyways...my family is coming over for our Thanksgiving dinner tomorrow. We went to James' family yesterday.

wow I am glad yo did so well, Jessica----and I like how the holiday gets stretched out----

-------we are thinking of moving our Chriustmas Eve to the Sunday before--my DB works until later on the 24th and the kids all have i n-laws to go to as well---it may just be easier if we do that---the only hold out is my sister----but luckily I am not the one to convince her of this idea--

Loz, do you CVS? They have a 3 day sale going on...ends Saturday. ...and there is an 8 cup (I think) coffee maker (is that what you meant by coffee pot?) marked down...not to mention the waffle iron, crock pot, air popcorn popper, electric griddle....

I didn't shop today. I did get up at 5:30 to go to CVS...I had all of my scenarios written down for both me and my mom, but when I got there at 6 they weren't open and I didn't feel like dealing with any of the crowds at the larger stores this year. So, I went home. The CVS sale runs through tomorrow, so I'll go tomorrow.

I heard a wal-mart employee on Long Island was stampeded to death today. It's a shame. Apparently the crowd was pushing against the doors of the store and he went to tell them to stop and the doors gave way and they all ran inside and trampled him. I love Black Friday and all, but I think the greed that some people have is disturbing. Quite honestly, I think if I owned/operated a store I would go outside and make an announcement to the crowd that they all had to be civil when they came in or I would make them ALL leave and wait another hour until the could behave like proper people. Hey, if it was my store, I could do whatever I wanted to!

I agree, Jenn. And our news just announced that there was a shooting in a Toys R Us nearby here in Palm Desert. It seems like the only two people killed were the two with guns. No word on what the argument was about.

I had heard that the stores weren't all that crowded so I was surprised when I heard about that death at WalMart. Talk about greed. How many people walked over that poor person without stopping - or maybe the force of the crowd didn't allow anyone to stop. It's so sad.

tina, the news says that the shooting at the TRU near you was gang related and not shopping related....that is a relief!

Our stores here were way more crowded than normal. I guess everyone is poor right now with the economy in the crapper. Everyone was trying to save some money.

I too read about that poor guy getting trampled to death, I think he was only in his late 20's. What a terrible thing. It said that when the police got there that even they were being jostled about while trying to keep people away from the man. HORRIBLE.

If that were my store I'd install turnstiles at each door so people couldn't rush in like that. And I'd have the police right there too. I would've absolutely stopped to help the man if I could. Saving a few dollars isn't worth anyone getting injured or killed. Thank God that the people here aren't like that.

First store Walmart: A hooded winnie the pooh/tigger fleece $4, a hooded cars fleece $4, Superman fleece sleep pants for Mark $4, 500 TC sheet set $20, Hannah Montana hooded sweatshirt $4, then I got about 12 DVDs for $2 each. 2 Hannah Montana tank tops for Athena $1 each, Taylor Swift t-shirt for my other niece $3, jeans for Mark $8.

Dunhams: 2 tree stand locks for $5 each.

Ollies Bargain Outlet: A big kit where you can build 3 bridges for $15, a door spy kit thing where it has an alarm and time stamp of when people were in your room $5, Holiday Bratz Doll $5, Betty Spaghetti Doll $4, Lights/sound Tractor toy $5, 4 more DVDs $2.99 each. A vampire book for me $1.99.

Lowes: I just got 5 sets of lights for $1.99 each.

Gabriel Brothers(if you know this store some are not so nice, but ours is huge and clean and nice and in a new building and VERY cheap): Winter scene tan fleece shirt for me $5, Deer sweatshirt for Mark $5, Another shirt with deer on it for Mark $5, hunting facemask for Mark $3, Playschool Farm look and find book 99 cents, a hat for me $5, a hat for my older niece $1.99, a hat with a british flag on it for dad $3,

Gamestop: I got 3 used games for my new Nintendo DS...it was buy 2 get one free, so I got Animal Crossing, My Sims, and Spyro Legend for $45 which is really good for 3 games.

Peebles: Hannah Montana hairclips for Athena $3, a $30 wallet for Mark for $13 on sale.

Family Dollar: I got 2 remote controlled trucks for $3 each and this huge metal wall art that's a tree in an urn, it's so pretty and was on clearance for $5 so I had to buy it for myself.

Target: I am Legend DVD $4. I didn't go in there buy my best friend picked it up for me.

Fashion Bug: Nothing! I didn't see anything I liked at that point and I only had $8 left! Mom has a store card though and I could've used it if I really wanted something.

Dollar General: Nothing. I was worn out by then and sat in the car while mom ran inside.

I bought more than that, some stuff I just didn't put on here because it was just stuff I needed like boxes, etc........I had a gazillion bags to get out of moms car though.

We always avoid the mall if we can. People line up outside for hours and I just don't want to do that.

Mark will love all of his DVD's. When hunting season is over and he's stuck here with me all winter he likes to watch his movies.

Jenn, I'll have to check out the coffeemaker, we have a CVS about 5 miles away......I asked the manager in Walmart where they were and he said, they are somewhere in this middle aisle. They weren't there. I almost went back and told him he was a liar but it was too crowded. Honestly, many walmarts give the people maps as they enter the store. Ours doesn't. But they should at least give the employees a map of where the stuff is located.

Wowza, Loz, wowza! I am EXHAUSTED just by reading about all your shopping! but oh man alive, it seems as though you made out really really well! Some of those prices you mentioned are tempting enough to make me think of getting up early and going shopping sometime.

Well Mark REALLY wanted a bug shield for his truck. They are about $45, so if I can come up with that money magically by Christmas then I will get that for him. Times are tough now, that was my last splurge and I only went because I'd been saving for it for months. Other than that, everyone is finished up!

Merme it is a plastic thing that is about 3 or 4 inches tall that attaches to the front of the truck's hood. We call them bug deflectors. Our truck has one.....tho I don't really know that it works...we still get alot of bugs on the windshield. The deflector is supposed to change the flow of the air going over the hood so that the bugs end up going up and over the truck instead of splatting right on the windshield. I guess they do work now that I think about it. Our windshield never gets as bad as the front grill of the truck. I'm pretty sure that is what Loz meant anyways. :)

Loz, sounds like you had a good day! I'm extra bummed now that I didn't get to go out, but that is Ok....maybe next year. :)

I thought about going to walmart for the $4 jammies, but couldn't justify the hassle for just $16. Consider me lazy.

You may yet get your $4 jammies. Just got back from our WM. And although they are sold out for now of blue ray players and wii's they have plenty of stuff for very reasonable prices still. I didn't go to buy gifts just misc household items that we needed here. But I did cruise around looking and there were lots of good items still around, including $3 kids PJs.

Oh thanks for explaining, Jenn! I couldn't imagine what a "shield" meant though I thought perhaps it was that cover that goes over the bed of the truck!

I was bummed I missed out on the $4 PJ's. It was so crowded right there around them that I couldn't get to them.

I'm most thrilled with my $20 500 TC sheets. I don't spend a TON ton at walmart but it's never a hassle to me because I love going early. It's so much fun to me. I would never go alone though. One day I'll be making Mark go with me. Now THAT will be fun.

Yes, a bug deflector/shield---same thing. They are also to help deflect any rocks that fly up to knick your paint or windshield. I really want to get him one, so I guess I'll be saving up my change to see if I can afford one. Then I'll be on to saving for the Outlets in April!

We have 'boxing day' the day after Christmas and I guess it's the Canadian version of Black Friday. I heard on the new that some person at wm got trampled to death in NY and the crowd was so thick that the police couldn't get to her body. In reality is it really that busy and crowded? I know on boxing day up here, people are at the store hours before it opens. things are usually marked wayyyy down, but I'm never there early enough. Guess when I drive I'll understand why my parents don't ever think about driving on days like those

There's a Canadian Black Friday??? I didn't know that. My parents didn't go shopping on Black Friday this year.

So Loz, you mentioned that you only had $8.00 left at one point. Do you set youself a limit and stop when you get there?

How much were the wii's advertised for? I bought Darbi one 3 weeks ago for 270.00. It's the sports wii.

I don't know. I just know they sold out because they had a sign up front today. I have never checked the prices of those.

I don't even know what they are. I just know that Darbi wanted it. We went to Best Buy tonight and I told Johnny we are sooo out of touch. We don't play video games or watch many movies at home. I didn't know what half the stuff there was.

First of all I know Boxing Day. We celebrate it in England. It was usually the day we'd go to my Nana's house for her big dinner! Everything is super cheap here on Boxing Day too Kenny, we just don't call it Boxing Day. I know people that get up super early to go get the reduced Christmas decorations, etc.....but I don't think the Boxing Day crowds would ever compare to Black Friday crowds.....

Sheri, I usually spend every last penny, if fact on BF and when I go to the outlets I hate coming home with money. I save for so long just for those 2 yearly events that I figure I may as well blow all of it.

Gamestop has a Wii that comes with the sports games.........it's 249.99 right now. That's $20 plus tax cheaper.

I love electronic gadgets and stuff, my favorite type of things to get--things that do stuff.

I might go to Walmart today...we'll see. We didn't go to church today because I woke up with a wicked headach and Stephen wasn't feeling all that great either. So, we are lounging around until Stephen has to leave for work. I am thinking about going to check out the prices on Christmas lights...I found 100ct. indoor/outdoor lights for $2.99 somewhere and want to try to find them cheaper. I did find 9 ft. Canadian pine garland for $2.99 and a 24" Canadian pine wreath for $3.99....I'm going to be sending Stephen out for those on Tuesday.

I wish I would've bought more of the lights at Lowes for $1.99. I only got 5. I should've got 5 more. Now I regret not getting them.

I ordered online Shelley a velour warm up suit and the didn't send tall pants. I've tried to reorder and of course they're out of tall. What to do?????

I was in Wal-Mart today and believe it or not they had a few Wii's left in there. I don't believe that the Wii's were on sale on Friday but I could be wrong. I believe that the big deal was just that they actually had some in stick. They are $249.

sheri, I shop at Metrostyle and New York and Company online. They both carry talls.......

I'm still wore out from the BF madness.

sheri--could the hem be let out of the pants that you have??--would they be long enough then???/ or if that would not be nough could you remove the hem, add binding tape to make a pocket and run elastic in it to make a gathered opening--they could be shorter then and no one would be able to tell. ---
