You can also make hot buttered rum from scratch, afgrey. You don't need a mix.

As I said Carol Jean in the last CH our leftovers were better than our firstovers. I think it is hard to celebrate elsewhere and if I do, I still at least make a turkey at home just because. Or even a 1/2 turkey or turkey breast. Here the stores will cut a turkey in half for you and wrap it that way, too.

It is getting colder and colder. Snow will be soon they say.

I cancelled my helper for this afternoon. I am too too wiped out from all the doings of last night and being up all day with Maxi to even think about the efforts involved with getting a shower. A different helper will be here tomorrow morning before I go to dialysis, so we'll take care of it then.

Too bad I have the rum but not too much of the other things! No brown sugar here, afgrey!

I've been sitting here laughing at us all in my thread Say What?

Oh, we are silly and strange people!

I'm about to clean out the fridge and freeze the leftover turkey. I'm sick, sick, sick of leftovers!
boy we are having some wind today. it is so beautiful and sunny and not extreamly cold, but that wind is dreadful. I went outside for just 10 minutes earlier and had to come right back in. I bet were getting 40-50 mph gusts out there. I should check the weather site and see what the gusts really are.

I went back and read some of the last entries of the previous ch. funny about the enchilada reciepe being so long. I started writting my reciepe for you last night merme. I had to keep going back and adding stuff. the post was really long and I was only half way done. ha ha. then I just deleted it. glad someone else (angleblossom?) had the patients to get it all down for you.

i'm having a canned biscuit and left over ham sandwich. we ate at ellie's but she "made" us all take all the left overs home. since there were 4 households present including hers, we divided the leftovers into 3. but... i was sick last night and not all of it got put in the fridge, so a lot of it went in the garbage today boohoo

Our leftovers were so good for lunch, I'm going to have some for my dinner too! Maxi left a little while ago, so I don't have to think creatively; I just have to warm stuff up for me!

Jiffy ~ I hate when that happens! I despise it when I must throw food away!

I'm telling ya, I got really upset two weeks ago when I had to get rid of everything in my freezer because it had spoiled while I was away! Way too many bags of trash went out that day! tears

I dislike waste too. But my dog likes that I cleaned out my fridge today. grinAnd my worms are happy out there too. Although they may be a bit bummed at my banana pecan bread. They did get the banana peels.

yes merme, i can imagine. the good side of it was that most of it is stuff we wouldn't have normally eaten anyway. the only really sad parts were the gravy and the turkey drippings for soup. that i am most sad about.

the meat was already in the fridge, so what went out was the accompaniments. dressing, casseroles, etc. and not a full one of any because of the sharing that went on.

gotta find those silver linings somewhere!

* Boiling water

Directions

In a bowl, cream together the butter, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and salt. Refrigerate until almost firm. Spoon about 2 tablespoons of the butter mixture into 12 small mugs. Pour about 3 ounces of rum into each mug (filling about halfway). Top with boiling water (to fill the remaining half), stir well, and serve immediately.

Too bad I have all the ingredients except the RUM! boohoo

Cindy Please Put this in the recipe thread ,, so I can always get to it!!

They don't have that in the stores here either,,,, boohoo alls I need to buy is more brown sugar! I have enough right now for it if I cut the reciepe in half,! grin shots

That's the recipe I use also. And yup, Diane, it is really good.

Rum is fairly versitile. I like it in hot cocoa as well.

The third movie of the Tolkien trilogy is coming on... The Return of The King. Maxi and I watched the first two over again today. We try to catch it whenever it is on TNT. Gee, that might be a very nice present from Santa!

Yepper, 'fat dog' as we like to affectionatly call her, nabbed the carcass.
the rest of the turkey was already pulled off the bone and skinned and in the fridge. that is what I'll freeze. I have enough of that to make a stew and some turkey and dumplings. yummy. but, in a couple of months. I'm kinda sick of turkey right now.
well, I'm about to shower and put on my 'oh so soft winter jammies'. and some SOCKS! he he. maybe some 7 dollar payless socks!
Merm....I didn't know you had a prothesis foot? (I'm sure I spelled that wrong)

Well we are fed and some of us are bathed. A couple of us are ready for school tomorrow. And a couple of us are ready for Dr's appointments tomorrow. I am nestled into my chair for the evening, I think. At least until I get a turn in the shower.

Cricket, I have a prosthetic LEG from right below the knee on the right leg, otherwise known as BKA "below knee amputation". So, the leg includes the foot. The problem with buying boots is that the prosthetic ankle has no flex so you can't point your toes to slide into a boot. You have to be able to put the foot into the boot with that 90 degree angle happening. You also can't wear shoes that require you to flex your toes to keep them on, such as Dr. Scholl's and some ballet type flats. I've walked right out of those ballet flats a time or two depending on the style.

Hi all,
Yes just ate rest of turkey as enchiladas- do have 3 plates for the freezer...just have to seal them tomorrow- Joe will take them to work for lunches... I do have the carcus and drippings so they will make soup tomorrow- have mashed taters and veggies left too so am going to make up a meatloaf tomorrow...that will be dinner and make more freezer plates up with those leftovers....
We ended up with about 6 inches of very wet snow today-- Joe came home and shoveled it-- he is off tomorrow so will do the kids school runs- Carrie's car needs new tires and she doesn't like to drive them in the snow if she can help it- hopefully Jon's bonus will pay for a new set of tires for her car..
Jiffy hope Matthew has good luck finding a job... glad his being home is good anyway--- sometimes things are just right no matter how they look at first.
Well off to take a hot bath- then finish up the folding of laundry... may go to bed early tonight.
Nana

Good night cricket.

Hi Jiffy, sad to hear that matthews job didn't work out--but glad he is there to help you---as someone else has just said, perhaps it all works out for the best.

I will be hoping that he finds a job soon.

LOL yep it is always something it seems.---Emily has told her DH and Val's DH they must quit-----and JJ (Val's) has simply refused---Chris (Em's) just does it sneekily---but at least there is not so much smoke around her lungs this way.

Good morning, Tina---I too am enjoying my coffee.

I remember when the girls were still home, I so hated to "get back" to the regular way of things. I always enjoyed having everyone home with me as well.

Good morning, everybody!

The snow we were supposed to get last night stayed rain. The snow line stopped a couple of miles north of me and I was glad for that! They say my area may not get any til Thursday.

My temporary girl came very early today and was out of here by 9:30 so now I have some time on my hands to finish waking up, have my coffee and maybe load the dishwasher if I'm motivated!

the temps in the morning here are expected to be in the low 30's. brr. i'm glad i'm off work tomorrow. I can just send the kidos off to school and come back in and get under a blanket. I have to go out at some point tomorrow and get a new tire for the car, but that is all I have planned so far. YEAH!

I got home an hour late tonight. It is still raining and on the windy side. I had a bite to eat -- a fast dinner -- and now I am just sitting here, too tired to make the coffee I've been wanting all day. I may have to nap first.
