The younger one is dead...One older is dead...The Other 2 are older.......alive
One older brother and one younger brother left.
There were 10 of us..............

I was thinking of the sister who has been sick and you've been helping her with her appointments.

She is the oldest in the family......I am second from the youngest.....
She is almost 78.............

10:30 and 17 students later I'm reading the Forum news. I just got a call from the doctor of one of our students asking if her seizure medicine can be given first thing in the morning at school because her mother won't give it to her at home. I've called DSS on this case already 4 times this year and I get a letter in return saying that mom has completed all "the requirements." I don't think mom has met all the requirements if she's refusing to give her medicine to keep her from seizing. The nurse told me that the medicine is being changed from a liquid to pills in hopes that the child will be able to medicate herself. She's in 2nd grade for petes sake. How dangerous is this?????

This mother sounds like she enjoys sleeping in and the girl gets herself off to school. School may be the only breakfast she gets also. If this is the case, she sounds pretty self sufficient and maybe can handle a pill in the morning. But you giving her medication could work too. I hope this all works out. For her and for you.

I think the uncontrolled seizures have damaged her brain already. She's having up to 20 a day and is supposed to be in 3rd grade. She's not even working at 2nd grade level and will probably be retained again. I really don't think she can take 2 pills every day by herself. I'll have to look up and see what the danger of an overdose on Depakote is.

Oh, I am sorry for this child. I haven't a lot of hands on experience with seizure disorders. Ted has always had classmates who seize but I haven't been around when this has happened. But he has always been in special ed. and they had a good adult per student ratio to handle most situations.

We were talking yesterday about the number of students at this school who have seizures. I wonder if the light system can somehow cause it. We have a teacher who started having seizures last year and some of the parents say their children don't have seizures at home. I never know if that's true or if they just don't pay their children any attention.
