My family has the tradition of always celebrating New Year's at home with a family party. We have good foods fancy enough for the event. We make crazy hats to wear (adding bits of Christmas glitz to make them gaudy), play games, tell stories and dance. We watch the Ball Drop, sing Auld Lang Syne and go outside to light sparklers and make a big bunch o' noise.
No matter where my siblings are in the world, I know what they are doing on New Years with their families. Having a great time at home to welcome in the bright New Year, nice and safe.

We were given two hands to hold, two eyes to see, two ears to listen & two legs to walk. But why were we given only one heart? The other heart was given to another for us to find.
We're having a "party" at moms.....with all kinds of appetizer and snacky stuff. Athena loves it and will wear her best party dress today so she can be fancy. So she wants me to be fancy too. She wanted me to wear my wedding dress.
Happy New Years everyone---may 2009 be your best year yet! New Years Day is mom and dads 39th wedding anniversary.
We made Muddy Buddies and Devilled Eggs already. We plan to put on a big pot of chowder to go with the lunchmeat sandwiches on Kaiser rolls.
There is also plenty of eggnog and specialty coffees for anyone who has a taste for such fare.

Our traditions have always revolved around the idea that what you do on New Year's is pretty much what you will be doing all year.
So, at midnight, hold silver coins in your hand so you'll have money all year.
Never eat chicken on NYE or NYDay because then you'll have to scratch for your living all year.
Eat black eyed peas on NYDay for prosperity and blessing.
So dig some coins out, my friend, and get yourself a midnight blessing -- you're going to need it!

I will be here for "The Party"...I assume we are having one????
I will bring some Asti and some chips, veggies & dip if we are.
[color:#993399]Well, JunieGirl, it maybe just you and Me. I will probably be here with my Mimosa and the T.V. on. The dogs will be driving me nuts going off because of the fireworks and my squirrels won't be able to sleep either. However my husband will be in there with his ear plugs snoring away. But if there is any luck on this New Years eve in the air for me then maybe I will be celebrating haven won at least some of the lottery this evening. Now that would make for a great New Year and really give me something to celebrate!
My next house will have no kitchen - just vending machines and a large trash can.
I plan to go to bed around 11pm... I plan to sleep it all away with the nice cozy comfort of an ambien lol... With any luck, it'll help the last 2 weeks dissapear!

Tina, how about the central friends---I am 2 hours earlier than you when it comes to time, right???--right now it is 3:40 pm here in Illinois....
Yes I will probably be around for Central and Mountain time zone folks. I am just not sure I can stretch out that last hour for my own. Because I am so far west, I consider most of you as 'eastern'. Technicalities.

Shadow and Smokey Joe each had a Rib Steak (rare) from Bubba's... I got to have a soft taco... sounds like the kids are going to have a better year than me... (no... they're not spoiled)
Cindy... that guy was trying to rip you off! Don't worry about him... you will probably get 3 times what he was offering you...
How many times do I have to tell you to QUIT FRETTING about all those little things? Everything will work out fine in the new year!
Happy New Year everyone! I wish you all a better year than '08
...Happy New Year everyone! I wish you all a better year than '08
and that my friends, is my wish for all of you too!
Also my wish to all of you. Don't know how 2009 could be worse then 2008. Black eyed peas and cabbage ready. I will watch the new year from behind closed eye lids.
Meet Clyde my Male Sugar Glider. Clyde says Keep it organic.
oh jimmy, i never say it can't get worse, because right then it does. but i am hoping that each of us have a better year as this has been a tough year for all of us.
I heard on the radio that we're supposed to stand facing our front door and at midnight throw orange peels and coins into the house. That's what we're going to do.
We went to see Benjamin Button. Brad Pitt is way cute and I liked the movie.
Jonni liked the movie but she said it made her cry. And she didn't much care for seeing Brad shriveled and old. A little crack in her fantasy, I think. I understand the coins, Sheri, but why orange peels? Do you know?

I just looked it up online and it said 9 pieces of peel for happiness and 9 coins for prosperity. Also supposed to ring a brass bell, which I don't have, in the corners of your house to get rid of the old.
Something to ponder in 2009: Reasons to quit smoking... You might light your beard on fire.... I just did!
When I worked on the dialysis unit in a hospital we had a rather young man, for his condition, around 50, as an inpatient every other week who eventually had both his hands amputated. He smoked and even though it was against hospital rules we would light his cigarette for him and open his room window. One night his nurse was someone who didn't usually work on our unit and she refused to light him up so he tried to do it himself. What used to be his hands was bandaged in gauze and he set his gauze on fire. His room alarm went off and the fire department came. He and the rest of us laughed about it for months.
