Here is a little Tufted Titmouse I shot in a neighbor's yard yesterday. (Yes, the neighbors are used to me photographing in their yards, and many come out to watch and help me). This little bird was quite upset about something and let me get pretty close to it. It was soon joined by a second Titmouse, who was just as upset. I never figured out what the problem was.

If it were spring I would be tip-toeing around looking for a fallen baby. That is a pretty bird.

it hit her in the head.

You need a bird song book like mine. I saw it in Birds N Bloom magazine and my daughter gave it to me for Christmas.

The mating and territory song of the Titmouse is, "Peter, Peter, Peter!" Their call (Which THIS bird was doing yesterday) is, "Pssssht, Pssssht, Pssssht!)

Whew, I almost fainted! I thought that you were about to say that you SHOT (as is bang bang your dead) the bird. But I am glad that you put that photo up because I have been seeing those little birds the past several years ( and I don't ever recall seeing them before ) and been wondering what they were. They are so cute and make lots of nest around here.

I'm a pretty good shot dodge. Better with a gun than with a camera.

I hunted all my life until about the age of 20, when I began to lose interest in hunting. When I was 10 years old, I owned 10 guns myself. By the age of 15 I had built my own, custom-designed gun, and was loading my own ammunition. Then by 20 I became more and more interested in observing the animals I was hunting, and what they were doing, and less and less interested in shooting them with a gun myself. Later, my guns were destroyed in a house fire, and I never bothered to replace them. I took to using cameras instead. I have many friends who still hunt and I always look forward to a mess o' squirrel gravy or some nice venison stew or even baked raccoon when I go to visit them.

Tufted Titmouses (Titmice? TitMousen?) almost always hang out with Chickadees. You find one type of those two birds, the other one is always close by. In spring, during Migration, migrating Warblers always look for and stay with these flocks of Chickadees, Titmouses (Titmice?, Titmousen?). When we hear the Chickadees calling, we go to where they are, and THAT'S where we will find the rare Warblers.

I have noticed that. See a chickadee, see a titmouse. Do you have a picture of a Warbler?

Sheri, there are at LEAST 30 different types of Warblers in North America. I have a few pictures I have taken of some. They are rather hard to photograph, being quite hyperactive. Let's see......errrrm......

BLACK AND WHITE WARBLER

BLACKBURNIAN WARBLER (FEMALE)

And, Yes, there WERE Chickadees around when I was taking these pictures.

Everywhere. Goldfinches are extremely fickle. They are probably in large high grassy fields eating grass and weed seeds. Goldfinches feeding preferences are to eat the seeds right off the plants.

Warblers show up in spring and again in the Fall. I took these pictures the first week of October this year. There are a couple of Species that can be found in Winter in the U.S. I got some pictures of a Yellow-Rumped Warbler a couple of hours ago. They are VERY common in the Southeast U.S. in Winter. You can also find some Pine Warblers and MAYBE some Palm Warblers this time of year. The other Warblers show up in April.

Here's another Warbler picture that I took TODAY around 3:00 PM, Sheri, a Yellow-Rumped Warbler in Winter Plumage. These birds are affectionately calle "Butter Butts" by birders. The picture shows the reason for this, "colorful" monicker.

One time this morning, I probably had 25-30 goldfinches on the feeders here and on the ground below.

obywan, yours still have the yellow color. I don't see any of those once it gets cool and no birds eat from the finch feeder that I see your yellow one eating from.

I have American Goldfinches sitting out at my feeders in the rain, wind and snow this winter. 3-6 at a time during some times of the day. In fact I had some very wet Goldfinches on Christmas Eve. We got rain, no snow, for Christmas. I have a great photo if I can figure out how to post it...ha!
