I'm pretty excited about finding this forum, the bird food suet making thread did it!

Well first I should say Happy New Year! 2009!

I have a bit of an obsession with my bird feeders and my birds. I photograph them daily and keep an online blog diary. I have even started taking my oldest daughter out birding with me every Sunday. Considering it's winter and below zero some days, that is a big accomplishment (getting her to agree to come along)! I know she will love it in the spring.

I am a beginning gardener. I like to plant for my birds of course. We also had a waterfall installed in the middle of a retaining wall 2 years ago that is really beautiful. It is pondless, no pool of water at the bottom but instead a gravel pit with a pump.

I look forward to sharing with and learning from others on this forum.

Welcome, Mybirdy from southern California. You will have a lot to chat about with Thornius. He is our resident birdman. Welcome to the forum. And a Happy New Year to you as well.

A couple weeks ago I had snow in my yard. Enough for a decent snowman or two. But I agree, we have it good most of the time. Well, except summers are darned hot and long.

Yeppers, I'm Thornius in Nashville, TN. I am 56 years old and retired and spend my time observing and photographing birds. I have been birding for 20 years now and doing bird photography for the last 6. I will probably go out in a few minutes to get pictures of the first birds of 2009. Welcome to the forum!

Thornius, I look forward to learning from your experience!

Jiffymouse, Thank You! Sometimes the best things come in small packages.

I hope everyone is kicking of the new year with some fun and laughter. It's pretty cold outside here today so we have been in watching kid movies and playing. My husband fell asleep on the couch next to the toddler while watching Cars. My toddler got mad and yelled "Dad! Wake-up! You can't sleep, it's not dark out!" Now if I could just get the baby to understand this daylight/dark thing lol
