I am so thrilled for you, Loz. I really think this will be the best medicine for what ails you (after your real meds) because it will give you a reason to get out of bed everyday. A joyous reason. And that he is young enough to blend into your family but old enough to be housebroken is an awesome bonus.

So when you are tired of playing with him, tell us what else he came with besides a box of toys. A complete wardrobe? Snowboarding gear? Costumes for each holiday including red, white and blue for the 4th?

Congratulations!!!!! I am sure that you will have a great time and very wonderful relationship with Bubba ( my cats name ). I had a Black Schnauzer that I lost to cancer 2 years ago. Her name was Anubus. And I have a friend who raised them for years. They really are a very smart breed of Dog and have so much love to give. They usually are very talkative also. Once again Congats to BOTH of you!
My next house will have no kitchen - just vending machines and a large trash can.
He is the most mellow dog in the world..... He doesn't talk at all....unless Mark really gets him worked up. I'm sorry you lost yours to cancer Memosa, we lost our childhood dog to cancer.
I have a $25 Walmart card that will probably go to buying some new goodies for my new dog baby.
Here are a few new pictures....and thank you Carol. And Tina--mark gave a thumbup to camo clothes.
Doggy in toys
Athena and the doggy
He doesn't leave Marks boots....he lays right on the floor with him. I need to work on getting him to like me as much too.
loz, i am so happy for you! and yes, you need to get him some hunting clothes. walmart has them. and mark will get over it that way  he does need clothing. my dogs have clothing.
I can't wait to hear Bubba stories. Bubba goes for a walk. Bubba won't sleep in his own bed. Bubba is getting fat. Bubba fell in the pond (oh, sorry. That is Cindy).

Bubba wouldn't sleep downstairs...... I had to bring his bed upstairs into the hallway.......even now I can hear him sat outside our door---but I really don't wants him in my room to sleep. Hope each night is easier on him than tonight. Although he's not crying or anything, and I just took him out for a last pee call.
I keep seeing his little face and it keeps shocking me all over again---that I have a doggy.
I am thrilled for you. Loz. The thing with Mark may be that he was the one that took him from home and Bubba is waiting for him to take him back. He will get over it. Does he have a special diet? Is he picky? Or is he an eat anything dog?
~Tina
Drama Free Zone. What every gardener loves the most, Begins and ends in rich compost. (Tina)
Ahhhh, you are smart. I wouldn't have thought of that. Of course that could be it......rose, his previous owner, called tonight to see how he was doing. She said she was so happy that we were able to have him because she knew he'd be loved and taken care of.
Marks been around Bubba a LOT.....so he practically lays on Marks feet. He wants to be with Mark 24/7. Being such a good tracking dog he KNOWS that Mark is in here, and he can't get to him.
I don't think he's too picky. His food is left out in the bowl and she said he usually just eats in the evening......She gave me a ton of his food and snacks and stuff.
He really loved the Schnauzer webkinz. I kept saying, look---it's you.
Mom had a good point earlier. She said that Bubba belonged here because he looks like Mark. Like he has a mustache. I guess dogs do tend to look like their owners right?
How many foster dogs do you have right now Tina? Ever have a Schnauzer?
OMG LOZ I'm so excited for you!!!!!! Mark was awesome in the way he presented 'Bubba to you! and the hard work is already done,, housetrained,, sit stay etc,, Nothing left to do now But play and get lots of love'n ,, Loz after a little while you'll not be able to imagine not having him in your life :ding: He looks very sweet and loveable! Congrats my Friend
you might want to get a closet ready to call his own with doggy clothes,
"Grace without perfection is more to be desired than perfection without grace."
LOz congrats on Bubba he looks like a great dog. I wanted to get Ernie and Army coat but couldn't find one big enough for him. I did get him a coat like the girls so now he is happy . Bubba will need an down filled coat because of your cold temps there and maybe some boots also to protect his feet from the snow and ice on the ground. He would look good in Oak camouflage.
Meet Clyde my Male Sugar Glider. Clyde says Keep it organic.
I have never owned or cared for a schnauz. My foster dogs are being cared for by a family member right now. I know it is because the owners feel I am too busy with John being ill but they were a solace to me too. I told them I may be dog-napping them to play with once in a while. I do see them once or twice a week. Having a dog who is not a picky eater nor a pig is a good thing. I keep dry food out for my dog 24/7. He eats when he wants and loves snacks. You can't even spell s-n-a-c-k in front of him or you had better be ready to back it up. I really want to hear how he is assimilating into your family and routine. I am very happy for you. Almost as excited as you are.

Thanks Diane and Jimmy. :ding: I still can't believe he's ours---forever, to keep. Down jacket and boots......hmmmmmmmmmm.
You know I got up when Mark did this morning to make sure he didn't forget to take Bubba outside.....then I got up and had a cig...then I had to play with him, now he's in his bed----in our room. I couldn't stand leaving him out of the room in a strange house this morning....
Tina, I'm glad you get to see the doggys. What kind of dog do you have? And I can tell you're excited for me---thank you.
That Bubba is moving closer and closer to sleeping in your bed, Loz. I can see it now. My dog is a very short haired mutt. I really haven't a clue of the breed except a terrier mix of some sort. About knee high and 30 pounds. Black Butt is all snow white except a black spot on his side and the one that gave him his name. He was abandoned at the high school where John taught about nine years ago. He loves kids. And we love him. Our only pet.
~Tina

That's right! Black Butt! I wish we could see pictures of him. He sounds really cute and lovable.
I doubt he gets in my bed.....but he might have a permanent place in my room at night.
Here's a Bubba in a blanket! I have him all wrapped up and snuggly and he's liking it....he's nodding off now....
His tail is docked and it's so funny watching him wag his stump.
Soon I'll be figuring out bathing options so he can be nice and fresh and clean and I tried brushing him last night. He didn't mind a bit. That beard of his gets sort of mangy pretty fast.
Loz, here is a few photo's of MY puppies---I put photo's of Emily's puppies because they are "visiting" here this weekend......
here is Dante---Our Australina Shepard Mix--he will be 11 this next year.
Below here is Beowulf--he is from Mexico I believe, or at very least California he is one of Emily & Chris's "puppies" he is going to be 3 this next year
lastly here is Faith--she is the newest member to Emily's house hold.
She is 7 and until this last fall has lived her entire life at the No-Kill shelter that Emily used to work at.

Carol - your dogs are all very pretty/handsome. I haven't been around dogs much since the one Don cared for while we were in Alaska, but yours look very nice and friendly. Faith has beautiful fur, and Dante looks like he would get along with my calico sister cats. Beowulf looks like he'd come from Mexico - a very different looking doggie.
Loz - Bubba is going to be the center of your attention for a long time to come now. Enjoy it.
Congratulations Loz!!! You thought Mark would never give in but he came through.
Bubba is a cute puppy! Can't wait to hear stories! You will love having a dog.
I have clothes for my dog. I don't dress her up all the time or anything. I just put them on her when she is going to be outside for more than a minute or two. She gets too cold otherwise. The first collar I had for Libby was pink and James wasn't having that so I got her a camo one. She has a camo coat too. I compromised...he thought I was crazy to buy her sweaters and coats...I didn't buy pink so he didn't say too much. Now he puts them on her all the time though. I think he finally realized how cold she actually gets.
I was just looking for this thread to ask for an update on how the settling in is going. And you posted. Cool. Most dogs love a belly rub. Ubless you get a really defensive one. How is it going. Is he still stuck on Mark or is he beginning to realize you are pretty cool too?
~Tina
Drama Free Zone. What every gardener loves the most, Begins and ends in rich compost. (Tina)
When Marks not around he sticks to me like glue.....but today Mark is here and he's sleeping right on the floor next to the loveseat. Don't tell Mark I posted this. Ha ha ha.
I don't mind, I know it will be a bit before he really gets used to me good. He loves his new little toy I bought him at Walmart today...and we got him a little bed to lay on down here and a 2 new bowls.
He's the least defensive dog I know. He doesn't even bark at the neighbors dogs....and I can touch his food and he doesn't care.....he's the perfect dog. :ding: Plus rose said he sleeps until 9:30 in the morning....so he's a match made in heaven for me......
I bet he will be up before the sun if Mark does. But if Mark takes him out for a tinkle he would probably settle back in until the next session woke. He does sound perfect. How does he react when Athena comes in? I know you posted pics but I was wondering if he needs to get to know a kid or if he instinctively loves kids. Butt loves kids as long as he isn't surrounded by a whole mess, like 15-20 of them. Then he will get a wee bit nervous. Ears back, slinking a little. Actually a lot like he looks in the pic I posted. Jonni was making him stay and I was pointing something at him (a camera) and he thought he was in trouble. But one-on-one or four or five of them he is in the middle of them saying "Oh goody! You came to play with me!"
~Tina
Drama Free Zone. What every gardener loves the most, Begins and ends in rich compost. (Tina)
Well his previous owner had a bunch of young grandchildren.....younger, hyper ones....so he is used to kids. He's wonderful with Athena...he's not snippy, or growly or anything. Just the perfect mellow dog.
Can anyone stand one more? Of Mark with the "baby"..... He's so totally into the belly rubbing.
Of course we can stand more,, ,
Loz Bubba's coat looks like it feels silky,, a friend of mine has a dog of that breed and her coat is sooooo soft and silky she is brite silver in color all over and has the nicest coat really beautiful and very very friendly and well behaved,, You have the perfect sized doggy for you,, and it's awesome he has already been around young children,, He can grow up with Athena,, .. I'm soooooooo happy for you!!
"Grace without perfection is more to be desired than perfection without grace."
He is! He's all furry and silky and soft. Like a giant stuffed animal! LOL Of course every 6-8 weeks he has to be professionally groomed...his beard and eyebrows and stuff. But he doesn't shed. That is one of the best things about his breed!
And he doesn't lick either which is good----no slobbery dog here. I was reading about Schnauzers and it says that they are very intelligent.
Last night Mark called him up to bed---and of course he loves Mark a lot already so off he went to bed. Well 2 minutes later he came back down. I was down here making my lasagna late last night and we figured out that he wouldn't go to bed until I went up to bed too. He just stood in the kitchen watching me.....as soon as I finished up he went up too. Like a little watch dog. It was so cute.
Thank you for being happy for me, you know how LONG I've wanted my own doggy. And to tell you the truth Mark just LOVES him. As you can tell by that picture.
Loz, When you take him for grooming, watch what they do. Most of it can be done at home so much cheaper. It is an easy matter of a haircut, bath and a brushing usually. Then nail trimming when needed. So if he sits for them he should sit for you pretty well for that hair cut. I just bought the pedi-care thingy for Butt. I haven't used it yet. We will see how it goes. But grooming your puppy shouldn't be that hard. And think of the $ you would save.

Yes, I would like to try it myself if I knew how to do it right. It's his beard and such that I'm uncertain of.....I'll have to see if I can go in and watch them do it next time.
How often is best to wash your dog? I didn't wash mine when I was younger---that was my parents job and I never really paid attention to how often they bathed him.
Well, when they smell is a clue. I really do mean that too. A dog who is indoors and brushed doesn't need it as often as an outdoor dog. And use a basic flea-type shampoo and you should be good to go. Get a dent-a-bone type chewy for him and you won't have as many expensive dental problems. I just heard Jonni telling John that I got the Pedi-Care tool for Butt. Only she called it a Pedi-FILE. Too funny. That is going to be what it is called around here for ever more.
~Tina
Drama Free Zone. What every gardener loves the most, Begins and ends in rich compost. (Tina)
loz--about how often to bath----in the beginning we bathed Dante once a week--but that was too often---his hair got dried out and frizzy and his skin became dry----I would go with the smelly thing like tina advised, but no more than once a month----didn't I read that he had to be groomed every 6-8 weeks---I would think that would do for baths as well---as long as he didn't "get into something"---then an extra bath would be called for-----

He's a great looking dog. I reckon his beard could be done in kind of Johnny Depp style with maybe a couple of ponytails. That would be sensational! Schnauzers of the Caribbean!
Thanks Tina and Carol.....I don't remember when mom bathed Scamp, but I was a teen then and in school so it was probably when I wasn't home.
Pedi-file? That is classic. Is that what's on that infommercial? That you just put on their nails and it files them without actually cutting them? I wondered how that was.

Let me know how the pedi-care thing works. I thought about getting one. I am always afraid of cutting Libby's nails too short. She has black nails so it is hard to see how far back to cut. If it works good I will get one too.
Bubba looks like a very happy puppy, Loz! I am so glad that he has taken so well to all of you. Even better that Mark really likes him!! I'm really happy for you that you were finally able to get a dog. He will keep you company when Mark is gone.
I got the pedi-care (pedi-file) after reading great reviews of it on a pet site. But I have not used it yet. Butt hates getting his nails cut and acts like you're killing him. He has ripped off several over the years, painfully, because he is an extremely active dog. I was hoping this would help. But I got it home and don't have the right batteries for it yet. And keep forgetting..... I will write my reviews here when I do use it.

Sometimes one of our cats gets my wife up at 5am, but it's not love; it's more like- I'll get up and feed you so you'll stop purring in my face !! The cat doesn't do it to me, because she knows she'll be put outside straight away!
I think it is love all around. He was scared sleeping in his bedroom last night because it was windy and the shutters were rattling. Well Mark opened our door and he was there sitting.....so Mark carried his bed in to our room.
Barb, he is the best entertainment for the winter.....so funny to watch him.
I don't think I can cut his hair the same length though. He has a special haircut for his beard and eyebrows.......I might take the scissors to his beard though and just trim it a tiny bit.
I am sure you can do it, Loz. A bearded, mustached dog does need some special attention because their face can get so scuzzy with trapped water and food. You might want to keep unscented baby wipes around to wash his face with too. I am always sure that it bothers the dogs to be dirty faced as much as the owners (or more).
~Tina
Drama Free Zone. What every gardener loves the most, Begins and ends in rich compost. (Tina)
Speaking of that Tina! I bought some baby wipes--unscented---yesterday....I wiped him down with one of them and he was so good. When I did his beard he just turned his head from one side to the other so I could clean him.
Like I said, he would prefer his beard kept cleaned. Wouldn't you? A lot of dog care is common sense and you have plenty of that. And it is still fun hearing about Bubba so don't stop sharing in between homework bouts, please.

He has 2 sleeping beds and a bunch of stuffed animals and toys. Of course the way I think, new toys are never bad--I'm sure he'll be spoiled. I already feel like I have a child because they are everywhere--his toys.
I got him a stuffed elephant the other day at Walmart that has super long legs and arms and he just loves it.
My first dog was a small Terrier Mix and it was a ball with it. Everyone who visited , wanted to take it home. It played all the time. My funniest moment was when the garden was about a foot high. The dog would take an empty gallon Jug of (Milk) by the handle and run up and down the rows. All you could see was the jug an it was so funny.
We called it Georgie......No one ever knew it was a girl dog ..LOL we never told till after it died>.
It was given to us in a shoe box , guy hubby worked with .. Just a puppy about 8 inches black and blond.
Oh so you do have a doggy. Do you go out and play with him/her a lot?
Sounds like Georgie had a good life with you Barb. I bet you missed her so much.
Well we gave Bubba a bath tonight. Interesting that was. He was so scared and then when we got done I yelled to Mark NOOOOOOOOOOO, don't let him go, let me get the towel....but it was too late.
He shook himself.....3 times. Yeah, we got a little wet. But he's so clean now and looks great. I mean he LOOKS so much cleaner and shinier.
Sorry if you are sick of this---but he's like my little baby boy.
awwww, what a handsome fellow and no, i'm not sick of it. not sure i will ever get sick of it. he's cute and your happiness and enthusiasm for him is so good for all of us

[/quote ] Loz,
Wow the world of difference, in how Bubba looks.....Looks neat and well manicured now.
We like puppy stories..........
yes we like goofing off with ours. Dogs are fun......Cats are HO HUM...... my opinion.
Thanks Jiffy, because I can't imagine getting tired of posting about Bubba. I honestly could just play with him ALL day long and never be bored.
Barb, isn't it a big change? I looked at the first pictures of him I posted and he looked all scruffy compared to the way he looks now. rose said she bathed him every week, which is way too much. But she said it had been a while since his last bath.
There was also some pet spray that makes them smell good that you spray right on them and now he smells great.
BTW, I'm not a cat person---nothing against them, my granny loved cats and had many. It's just that I like dogs better. :ding:
Give it a few months and I'm sure you'll be sick of it eventually.
Bubba playing in flowers, Bubba eating, Bubba napping, Bubba taking a bath, Bubba on a ride, get the picture?
Then again I don't get tired of pet pictures. Like I could look at sweet little Emmy all day. And Shadow, and everyone's pets. I even love seeing Lynne's cats and I don't really like cats.
Yep Tina, he is the most mellow dog ever. Unless you say the words, ride or treat. Then he goes nuts. Right now he's sleeping on my feet again...his usual spot.
Oh yeah......anything to do with going out is exciting. As soon as I put my coat on he gets excited and runs around like a crazy dog. But he's as equally excited to get back inside the house too.
Don't get me wrong, he isn't mellow all the time---he has play time and he gets all worked up....but for the most part he's really calm. He likes his dognaps.
And he's always using his nose to push your hand up onto his head. He didn't get pet too much before so I guess he's in love with the attention now.
This is funny too, not to sound stupid. But last night I tried to take him out to pee. Well it was freezing raining and he wouldn't go off the porch. I didn't blame him....well he had to pee though. So I thought I'd take him thru the basement to the covered porch at ground level. I went to the bottom of the basement stairs and called him....he always comes wherever I am. He can't stand not to be able to see us....well he stood at the top and shook his head back and forth. I called him again and he did it again! I about died laughing and chalked it up to coincidence......well Mark finally got him outside and when he called him back up the outside steps he shook his head no again and went running back thru the yard.
Right before I taped that clip I had "beauty shop" up in the small bedroom with Athena....so she was showing off her makeup. And I wasn't on camera because she did MY makeup.
Mark just has to work now on a gate at the top of the side steps. Although he doesn't run off at all. He's a scaredy cat. He just stays in the yard and then comes up the stairs. Still, I want him to be safe and our street gets a lot of traffic from all the cars going up the hill.
It's a wide opening and I was trying to talk Mark into this: On each end build 2 tall planters, attach a trellis to the planters--like an arbor across the top. Build the gate onto it. I figure the weight from rocks in the bottom of the planters and dirt would keep it anchored down good.
That way he wouldn't have to drill the cement. And it's such a big opening that I don't know how he'll really do it.......it's sloped to the side too.
I think your idea is a good one, Loz---you make a lot of sense and I think it would be a lot less work for Mark--or at very least it sure would be easier for him---
________
Life isn't about how to survive the storm, but how to dance in the rain!! .....
Good luck with the gate- that sounds like a challenge!
Bubba has eyebrows like our former prime minister, John Howard!! Except John has a unibrow, and Bubba has 2. You guys probably talk with more respect about your president, don't you? Not like us...
My 5-year-old is into makeup, too. Last week she accidentally sprayed some body spray into her eye. Ok, so we know now it's not a good idea for her to have body spray! Anyway, we gave her eyes a good wash, and she was fine, thankfully.
Oh I don't know....most people I know aren't fans of the current president. There are so many jokes about him.
The gate will be a challenge. I think I have a picture of the steps, let me see.....Not the best pictures, but see how at the top of the sidewalk it's slanted.....I think bringing it down to the first step will be much better, but it's quite wide.
I'm glad your little girls eyes are okay.....kids love that kind of stuff. I know that Athena puts about 10 coats of lipgloss on even though I tell her she just needs one. She really enjoys putting her hot pink, and I mean BRIGHT hot pink Hannah Montana lipgloss on me.
Yes, I think you are right- it will be easier on the first step because it's level. But then it could only open one way.
I think George W even does jokes about himself- it's easier that way!
Know what you mean about the lip gloss. In our house, it's the 11-year-old who is more into Hannah Montana. Won't be long for the younger one, though. And they even want to put lip gloss on me!!!
I think your 'portable' gate is a good idea, Loz. But Mark is the woodworking expert. He knows that the gates themselves are heavy and almost all of them will sag over time. And not much time for some. But a gate on a caster wheel might hold its own weight up a bit.
