Hello everyone!!! I am new here so please be gentle. LoL!!!

Well I have a lucky bamboo plant. It is just one that the roots are in water in a very large vase. We have had it for about 11 months. Well just recently the stock is turning yellow (the past that is out of the vase) and at the very top it looks like it is starting to srivel up. But the two little stocks of leaves are still green and seem to be doing ok. And when you lift the stock out of the water that all is green also. I thought that maybe it was not getting enough sunlight so I moved it, but that has only been for a few days.

Someone please help!!! I don't want it to die!!!

Thanks!
Steph

Steph,
Wish I could be of some help but unfortunately I have killed my share of "LUCKY" bamboo.
However, a friend (who has extreemlly great luck growing things) gave me this one for my B'day back in October

and so far it is doing great. I have it sitting in a westward window that gets filtered light, no so much direct light. Of course I live in the florida pan handle so that may also have something to do with it I don't know but regular bamboo grows very plentiful around here.
Anyway I feel your frustration and wish you the best of luck with your "LUCKY" Bamboo.

well, you can keep them in water for years, but they grow better in potting soil. they aren't bamboo at all, they are dracaena. and, if they are dying, it may be bacause there are twist ties below the surface that are choking them. i've had that happen.

i should have said, i go in and cut the twist ties with wire cutters. i don't even try to pull them off, i just snip them to keep them from choking the plant.

No no Jiffy, that is the weird point, these are the first ones that I have been able to keep alive. It was the other four that I had, that I paid good money for and that were not in any restraints that died. These babies are hanging in there and I am not about to touch them except to water them not and then. Sure as I do something that is suppose to be good for them they will fall over dead. I will just cross my fingers and say a little prayer and go with what i have for the time being anyway.

as long as they are good, i'm all for that. but if, like steph's, they start to go, the first thing i'd check for is twist ties.

ha ha ha........well, water does get stagnated and breeds all kinds of nasty bacteria sometimes. I have some in some rocks with water and some in soil. my soil lucky bamboo is much healthier and grows faster. the ones I have in water I flush out about once a week with fresh water.

I change the water maybe every other month. And I only use bottled water. Just assuming that it would be better for the bamboo. But it is wilting more and more everyday!!!

Here is another plant that she gave me. She put it in just these bottles ( one an old dish detergent bottle cleaned and the other a verigated version of the first in a soda bottle )and I have just left them in there because they are doing so well as she gave them to me. I guess I need to change the water in them also? But I am just afraid to do anything. I have had these many many times before and planted them in pots and they DIED!

that looks like epipremnum aka devil's ivy or pothos. you can leave it in the water or you can plant it in soil. the soil should be a well draining mix of regular soil and cactus soil or perlite (or even all three). if you do decide to leave it in water, you should change it out at least every 6 weeks - more frequently would be better, though.
