Northern Wheatears are found in EXTREME northern Canada and Alaska, and then only in Summer. I have seen one picture taken by a friend in Nova Scotia this year. They are a strikingly beautiful bird. Cardinals are in the Finch / Bunting / Sparrow family and are EVERYWHERE in the Eastern U.S. and Canada. They are NOT found West of the Great Plains. Cardinals are about the size of a UK Blackbird. I have about six Cardinals living and nesting in my yard. Here is a picture of a male I took a couple weeks ago in my yard. Male Northern Cardinal Mockingbirds are in the Thrush/Thrasher family. They imitate almost every sound they hear They are OBSESSED with sound. Very curious, brave, and friendly, THEY often initiate FRIENDLY relationships with people. I have a Mockingbird I call Mr. Mocky, who has lived in my yard for six years and who now has several offspring in my yard, too. He comes and socializes with me whenever I call him by whistling the opening phrase of Beethovens 5th Symphony. I give him apple slices smeared with peanut butter and cakes of peanut flavored suet. Northern Mockingbirds are omnivorous.

nice picture Dianne. I love watching the birds. I've asked for a birdsong book from Santa. I haven't been that good but I'm hoping Santa was watching you instead of me.

Hi Dodge, I'll err... look forward to being ruined Thanks for that info Thornius, I like the sound of your friendly Mockingbird. We have a hand-tame Robin, which is of course nothing like the American robins, it makes me feel so humbled when they trust us so much. We get quite a few Wheatears where I live, they always seem such graceful birds. Bestofour I'm sure Santa wasn't watching you too hard

I've seen your Robins, Benjismum. They are related to our Kinglets I believe. Our American Robins are close relatives of your Blackbirds. Confusing, isn't it?

You have one of my favorite birds, the Northern Mockingbird. It is our state bird here in Tennessee as well as Texas, and I think Florida and several other states. AMAZING singers and Mimics, They sing ALL night in spring. They love to eat suet and apples. I slice up an apple, smear it with Peanut Butter and put it on a platform feeder. They go CRAZY over it. They are SUPERBLY intelligent, highly curious, and EXTREMELY belligerent and territorial. I have seen them attack cats. I have one that attacks EVERY Starling that comes in my yard, but happily and politely lets any other bird eat at my feeders. I have even had them attack my lawnmower when I was mowing the yard. They love sounds. They imitate PERFECTLY most bird songs and will copy any noise that interests them. I taught my Mockingbird, Mr. Mocky, the opening phrase of Beethoven's Fifth Symphony. That's how I call him. He flies down and lands on the porch rail and runs up to within a few feet of me. He is fascinated by my voice and loves to hear me talk. These are WONDERFUL birds to have in your yard. MR. MOCKY

Nice pics Sheri! Yours looks like a female. (yeah, yeah, Thorny, I know the sexes have the same coloration) I had a pair in the spring, and one looked like yours Sheri. It had softer, rounder features and just looked more feminine. The other was like Thorny's pic above. Bigger and bulkier and with more attitude. I have a friend who brags that he can tell if an adult cat is a male or female at first glance just by general body features . They have the same sort of differences as the mockingbirds. Some birds are different though. With hawks, I think the females are generally larger.

Mr. Mocky's mates appear not as robust as he does. They are also shyer and less outgoing. I think Mockingbirds may show sexual dimorphism in very subtle body size and shape and behavioral patterns. I believe that only the males sing.

Johnny bought 100 pound bag of black sunflower seeds so all my feeders are full of them now. The nuthatches and chickadees and cardinals are loving them too.

Most seed eating birds like BOSS(Black Oil Sunflower seeds). Chickadees Titmousen, Finches, Cardinals Grosbeaks, Wrens, Sparrows. Some like them spread on a flat surface like a platform feeder or the ground, some in those tube feeders with the little perches. TSC has 100 pounds of BOSS for around $40.00. The price is going back down after SKYROCKETING last year.

TSC is MUCH cheaper than Walmart or any other place when it comes to bulk birdseed and Rabbit feed. I get a two month supply of rabbit food there for $9.00. That's a nice Titmouse pitcher ya got there,Sheri, and a very nice swinging platform feeder. Titmousen will also use the tube feeders, too. Those sunflower seeds make DELICIOUS snacks for humans, too. I'll get a handfull to munch on as I watch the birdies eat them. Sort of a shared picnic lunch with the birds.

My tube feeders, which the yellow finches use n the spring and summer, are not touched in the winter by any bird. That's why I think my finches come to your house to winter. I don't know what TSC is. I don't know where he got these seeds. I said get seeds and he came home with a huge bag. He always does. I don't know why he won't listen to me. I don't have places to store these giant bags.

Yep. TSC is Tractor Supply Company. We have one a couple of miles from my house. That's where I get most of my seed and feed.

Dogs are strange at times. We gave our dog one of my double boiler tops for a food pan. 10 years ago.. He has such a good time woofing at it an throwing it in the air and and chewing on it .. Pan????????
He gets so sad if it is missing.. The top rim is coming off and it it is in the saddest shape , but he loves it......... Of course he has another pan for food.
I even gave him toys and fur stuff, he has no fun with that..LOL
Let them be happy.
