Okay, here's the itenerary. I've got to do some chores, but I've been missing the old days and the great times we all had in the Coffeehouse. I thought I blow back through here and see if I could cause some trouble. Mission accomplished, you say? Not even. I think it's time for a classic, nay, a legendary Coffeehouse episode, so get your hipboots on, or your hippy boots, I don't care. Let's see if we can do it like we used to, it's Saturday, it's cold as the dickens outside, and there are NO EXCUSES! Are you all with me?

well--until I have to leave---when my DH come home---(don;'t know when that will be) we are going furniture shopping--My Christmas gift.... Cool, A party of two there. That sounds like fun too. Do you know i have never been furniture shopping for myself? I have helped pick out stuff with a friend or two. All of mine has been a mishmash of grandma's attic hand-me-downs and I really am comfortable with that. It has also allowed me to live debt free in my old age. That is fine with me.

Well some people memorize the codes so they can put them in at a moments notice. NOT this 'people' however. My head is cluttered with enough nonsense without adding more

well my bedroom set I bought before Rod & I were even dating---(we will be married 30 yrs this next April) my kids twin beds were mine when I was growing up all of my livingroom furniturwe was my MIL's--well except for the entertainment center/TV (new) and then the side table that my DH made for me. I did get to buy my dining room table (from my uncle's antique store) so me getting these side tables is a big deal

I was 'splaining why I have such a hodge podge of furniture for when you come visiting. I am a junk collector and I like the 'theme' I have going on here. I don't freak if a kid spills something. I just clean it off until it is time to toss it out and move on to the next hand me down. I do so want new carpeting though. What I have is well beyond cleaning.

We're really hard on furniture, and our pets are really hard on furniture, so it wouldn't make sense for us to spend a lot on it. Last time I bought something new, I bought a really nice futon with a wooden frame and a Sealy mattress, we use it as a sofa that doubles as a queensize bed, it's really comfy, and living in the country, it's nice to be able to offer guests a comfy place to sleep so they don't have to worry about driving home late at night.

We stick with the old wood floor and vinyl tile, we live in doggie daycare and kittyhaven, so spills and "accidents" are inevitable.

I have a really good futon frame in storage. I have off and on looked for a decent mattress for it. I do not like most futon pads because they are buttoned and buttons are an issue with me for comfort.

yep I agree with you both.---and I was not offeneded tina---
I do however hate the couch & chair from my MIL----I hated it the day she bought it--it is however a sleeper sofa--which has come in handy--- my oldest DD's trundle bed is on the basement---and there is a guest bed room--with a queen bed in it.--and my husband's great aunt's dresser & rocker.
Did I mention I will likey be buying used side tables---can't spend the $$$ on new oak ones.....

I got my trash all out of the house and down to the dumpster. I have three of five beds stripped and my washer and dryer are working overtime today. I have a bunch of king sized bedspreads of decent quality that I bought when they shut down a couple of air force bases here. These I have tossed onto my upholstered furniture to cover it all up for years. I have area rugs on top of some of the worst places in my carpets. None of the colors match any other color. I don't have curtains on my windows. I don't need them for the most part and if someone does peek in they may just turn to stone, Medusa style. I'll be needing to haul in some firewood soon. I know I live in southern California and people don't think we get too cold. I beg to differ and I guess my blood is thinner than some. My fires are pretty much going 24/7. Even if it does get up to 75 today it doesn't reach into the house much and it only barely gets there and dips back down again fast.

It's really windy here, and the windchill is bad, but it's sunny, pretty through the window...but I have to go out into the wind for a few minutes. If I don't respond again for too long, send a search party that's it, let's throw a search party, maybe I'll find a brain!

you guys are fortunate that you've had people to give you furniture. My friends whole house of furniture was given to them by their parents. I have always been on my own. No one has ever given me anything like a car, furniture, money anything like that. I've had to buy everything on my own. It must be nice to have people who want to help you.
It's a little windy here today but beautiful.

Okay, got something done. Hi sheri! Well, I didn't find a brain, but I sure warm...I dressed in too many layers and had to start shucking them off...then when I got back in the house, I had to turn the heat down... If I have to open the windows,...well, not going that far! Still sweating, though.

I filled two wood boxes and that sure warms you up too. Burning wood for heat warms you many more times than when it is actually burning. There is cutting, splitting, stacking, hauling, etc. Sheri, we have given away 3 cars in the last 3-4 years. When you own a truck and people know you like furniture, it will come to you. It is so much easier than paying to tuck it into a landfill or even calling Salvation Army for a pick up. When my son's old fridge gave out on him I let it be known that I was looking for a replacement. I got it within a short span of time. I had done that with three fridges for him alone. They don't last long and they don't have purified ice and water in the door but he doesn't care.

I've been given a fridge and a couple of stereos in the past because the icemaker or a single unessential item like that doesn't work, I still have the fridge 4 years later and use it in addition to our kitchen fridge so we can pile it full with great sale items, and I still have a great stereo in the livingroom and one in the shop that I've had for 10 and fifteen years, a few blasts of compressed air got the cobwebs out, literally, and they both work great now.

My youngest daughter has a couple of CD players that work perfectly fine from people upgrading. I like that kind of thing. I do wish someone had wanted to get rid of a working top of the line laptop a couple weeks ago. Would have saved me about $1500.

Jeeeeeeeeeeeze Dave - do you think you could keep it down a bit??? , Not feeling so well today - got a headcold and a headache to kill! I don't do coffee, so hot chocolate had to do... can't decide what to take for this headache though - any ideas? It's snowing here - small flakes, but tons of them. Supposed to get about 10 inches by the time tomorrow morning arrives. I'd love to party - even though I wasn't invited , but hope you don't mind if I sit in the quieter corner for a bit?

Awe, poor baby! I delegated the invitations to an unreliable person!Hehehe. Myself, I'm totally reliable, scouts' honor and all. How have you been, Lynn? I mean, besides miserable. As for the headache, see previous CH for drugs, go back in time 'til before they were all eaten or stolen and you'll find plenty. If thorni shows, we're mugging him for his. If I can be serious, though, (oh no, not again!) if you have a headache, and you do, if you can't tolerate aspirin, or it's not working, here's a secret. Take 1 benedryl and drink a cold sugarfree softdrink, especially a sprite or seven-up. The benedryl will ease swelling, and the sweetener contains phenylalanine, a compound found in nature, which helps regulate the brain's pain receptors. I don't have brain receptors, so I can't tell you if this will work or not!hehehe! Nah, it works, and along with one aspirin, if you have one, will wipe away a headache. Promise.

I don't know why sprite or 7UP works better but it does for me. I suspect that the citric acid in the flavoring interacts with everything else.
