Barb I believe there is a place in your email preference that you "click" on to send along with your email for the recipient to choose whether or not they wish to let you know if they've read it. , It's up to the recipient to let you know when it's been read, I don't believe there is an automatic feed back to let you know it's been read.

With the hostesses old GH emails there was a priority setting. I never really knew what it was so I mostly sent stuff high priority just because I figured why not? I don't know if the person received it with a high priority message attached to it or what.....It's not like it could get there much faster, it's email.
at my last job we used 'outlook' for our email. it was very easy to set or unset. on outlook you go into "???" and you choose 'read reciept' you get a message back on every person that reads each e-mail. I guess what I'm saying is it is probably different depending on what e-mail system your using. if I were you I'd just poke around in options and preferences. if your system will do it, you should find the option there.

cricket has it right. outlook and outlook express (both microsoft products) have the option of making all mail ask for a read receipt or just a delivery receipt or you can manually select which emails you want read receipts on.
but, that said, a read receipt really only says that the email was displayed on the recipients computer, not that they actually read it. some secure email systems are quick to differentiate.
hi priority will have an ! by the email or have something in bold to display that the sender thinks it is important. sometimes it is a flag or something like that.
other email systems may or may not have the priority and read receipt options available.

that was what I was going to say
i know for hotmail, you can choose/click the red exclamination mark ! above the 'from email' and the recipient will see the ! next to the subject of email. I can't find a similar button in gmail
(PS: little secret, I honestly don't know how outlook works lol :S)

Thanks gang..
Another question.. Kenny
Is gmail slower than the other types you have used?
I love GMail, I prefer it to any other service actually...
As for high priority, it just shows what you feel the message is worth in reguards to importance... A lot of businesses try to address higher priority messages first. Some helpdesk systems also set the priority of the message based on this email setting.

I :ding: Gmail. It's all I use. I don't even use my verizon email at all--ever. Just gmail. Gmail for friends, hotmail for junk, and yahoo for really junky junk like sweepstakes entries(because I know I'll get spammed bad).
No......my gmail has a notifier in the bottom of my toolbar and is totally separate from Verizon. So as soon as I get a gmail email it pops up and tells me. It's wonderful. Very fast, and the best email I've ever used Barb.
GMail doesn't go through verizon... It'd be if verizon pays them to run their email, and even then, it'd just be gmails servers... GMail owns their servers, they don't need an ISP to run through... ISP's go to them, so one set of servers if your isp uses them for email...
And another reason for GMail? They have the best spam prevention methods you could comprehend...

I run all of my domain's email through GMail; in fact, I recommend it to all of my clients (as they have a huge server redundancy farm which no single group would be able to match without a lot of money)
