Hi all. I bought some potted primrose last night and I need to know if I can go ahead and plant them. I am in Alabama and it is currently dropping into the teens at night. Thanks for the help.

Although primroses like cool weather, you don't want to set them out if it's going to freeze. They are available in stores now to be grown as house plants, not really to be planted outside. After danger of freezing has passed, you can plant them outside (they will have probably stopped blooming by then because the ones in stores were grown in greenhouses and their normal bloom time isn't until early spring), but should they survive the summer, they will bloom again next year.

Thanks! I am glad I didn't set them out! Whew! I bought 8 of them to go around my mailbox. I had a few at my old house (grown from seed), but I really never did anything for them. Do you think they will be OK in my garage until this cold weather passes? We keep the indoors 72 so that probably isn't an option.

I'd put them against a wall and cover them.

30 years maybe but I've only grown primrose maybe 3 years. Someone sent me seeds one time and I liked what I saw.

They are definitely beautiful plants and my last were easy to care for. I was a stay at home mom for 8 years and was in my yard daily. I have since moved and opened a clothing store. So I don't have the time I did to invest in my yard. It is sad. But, my new year resolution is to spend more time out there and make this yard what my old one was. But, for now, it is off to work.

I moved houses-from one subdivision to the next. About 1 mile apart.
