Hello everyone. I have to be at a school meeting at 5. What a terrible time for me since I get off at 2:30.

I called DSS about a student yesterday and about another one today. Parents are so aggravating.

Well, I've decided on tuna for dinner tonight. I probably will make a sandwich out of it because I so do not feel like cooking. I've got my nose in some creative projects and don't want to take the time away.

We are supposed to get record breaking low temps tonight, so I am planning on keeing warm, warm, warm! I will also move the birds away from the sliders although that is their favorite spot... I just don't want them affected by the cold.

I heard from some elderly friends in OH today. It is always nice to hear.

I have not seen Enrique or Mark (badplanter) or Scott(toposh). Kenny is the only kid who has remained pretty steady.
A thoroughly busy day. John needed a refill already so I left him at the hospital. He is home again. But all of the running around has exhausted all of us. I will nap. I might have to do it all again tomorrow.

what's up everyone?
record breaking lows, merme! It's TOO cold where you are already!
were getting another 'hard freeze' tonight. here that means, temps below freezing for 3-4 hours in a row. our high tomorrow is only 40!
I gave my garden a little drink a while ago and shut off the water that goes to that one hose. we'll be dripping inside tonight.
I didn't know you had birds merme? where've I been? what kind?
I have not seen enrique or the other guys in some time.
rico was talking about moving a while back, remember?

Some local areas are at -25 F and that is NOT wind chill factor; that is the air temperature.

Up at the weather observatory on Mt. Washington *which always always has wild weather* the news reporter took a jug of HOT water outside onto the observation deck. It was so cold up on the mount that when she threw the hot water up in the air, it turned instantly to snow! She had a handheld snowmaker with just plain hot water!

Cricket ~ Maxi has two parakeets... a blue one named Buttons and a Yellow one named Ties. Buttons is 7 or 8 years old; Ties is 5 1/2.

Tomorrow is going to be a dreadfully busy day and I have to go out for two appointments in this frigid weather when they are telling people to stay indoors! You know I hate it!

Oh my Merme, dress warm----I am so sorry for you that you have to go out in this weather.---I too will be going out, I need to do some bookwork for my MIL.--hopefully it will not take too long as I will be letting the car sit out in the cold while I am at her house. egad

That kind of weather sounds really bad merme--so sorry for you, only '0' here.--

10 degrees here.

I have a student who is in 2nd but should be in 3rd. He has failed his eye exam for the last three years. He has Medicaid, parents are American so there's no language barrier, but they refuse to take him to the eye doctor. This year he can't even see the eye chart from 20 feet. The reading teacher is blowing his work to a large font. Do you think this may be why he can't do his school work?????? I've sent letters, spoke with mom, spoke with dad. Dad said "he's faking." Day before yesterday I called DSS. The parents were up here this morning mad as spit. DSS made the student an appointment and told them they better keep it. DSS is coming to interview the children alone and they don't want that but too bad. It makes me think something else is going on that they're so freaked about the alone interview.

Parental neglect is a sad thing.

we're on a roll here. Now DSS is here about a student with seizures (I think I've mentioned her here. She has up to 20 seizures a day, wets her clothes, mom doesn't give her meds at home and doesn't send extra clothes or return what we send home). I called the students doctors yesterday and told him she's not getting her medicine at home and HE called DSS.

You are having a very busy day, Sheri. I am so sorry for these kids.
I wrote about parent neglect and the eye doctor thing. And then felt very guilty. Ted needs glasses. He outgrew his. But I cannot make him participate in an eye exam; he fights them and is getting too hard to hold down. And he fights wearing glasses. I got quite tired of fighting and broken glasses so he won that battle. He does get eye exams for possible disease and things but no longer has to wear glasses. At least for now. If he really had a hard time seeing and the glasses helped a lot, he would use them I'm sure. But I guess he prefers his warm, fuzzy world.

No, I don't feel all that guilty. It is benign neglect in his case.
Sheri, You have mentioned the seizure child before.I am glad they are addressing that issue too.
I send a backpack to school with Ted daily. It has his lunch in it and a complete change of clothing (in case). I change out the clothing to reflect seasonal changes and most of the time he has outgrown it meantime. He hasn't needed those emergency items in years. But I keep on sending.
Time to get my crew to school and shop a bit. Be back later.

Sheri, bless your heart. I know that is a hard situation. When I worked at 2 elementary schools it absolutely killed me to see what went on with some of those kids. What you do for them is great. They are helpless by themselves and rely on adults to do for them what needs to be done. If their parents will not do it then it's wonderful that someone cares enough to help them. So many times problems go ignored and children's lives are forever affected by neglect and abuse. I would always imagine situations through that child's point of view and it is heartbreaking.

And Tina, do not feel guilty about Ted. There is only so much you can do without cooperation. Like you said, if it were a bother to him he would do better with it.
