I love the way light reflects off of cats eyes. And dogs and most animals. The only time I'm not too happy about it is when camping and you hear something bigger than a breadbox scuffling around in the undergrowth out in the darkness. Then when you turn a flashlight on it you get nightmare material shining back at you.

Rabbits and squirrels eyes glow red as the fires of Hell in a flash. Gives them a very sinister look.

I have brain freeze this morning and nothing is working right. It was a 3 Dog night here on the Gulf Coasts Pan Handle. I realize that there are those of you out there who are suffering lower temps than me but for my blood line this may as well be 30 below.
My next house will have no kitchen - just vending machines and a large trash can.

The camera may make them look vicious but they can be oh so sweet and loving. From a sweet cuddly baby to a lovable adult.

Love those squirrels! Wish we could have them here in Oz! We do have zombie kittehs, though. Don't need any more of those!

Well, I can totally understand why they will not allow them to be brought over there. After all look at what has happened with the introduction of rats, rabbits, cats, feral pigs and poison toads to your country but I don't understand why they do not have them in the zoos there. I mean they could have them and just have them spade or neutered so that if they should get lose in the country they would not be able to breed and cause havoc like those other animals. And they can be neutered. I have had mine fixed. Mainly to prevent the possibility of cancer. They are from the rodent family and rats unless constantly bred or fixed usually end up getting cancer. I certainly do not want my babies getting cancer. In the wild their life expectancy is only from 1 to 3 years so they rarely have a chance to develop it but in captivity they can live anywhere from 10 to 18 years. And I have known of a few who did develop it.

Actually, they may have them in zoos; I just can't remember seeing them in the Melbourne zoo. Next time we are there, I will make a special effort to find them. With a short lifespan like that, you'd want to be able to breed them in captivity.
You are right about all the imported species we have here, and that list you mentioned is just the start!
How's the temp in sunny Florida today? Quite warm here. May get some showers Thursday.

Basically they are very sweet and cuddly once you show them you can be trusted. They are quite intelligent, too.

As far the weather here...Ugh.. it has been down in the freezing range for a number of days then today it did get up into the 50s (and don't ask me what that is equivalent to in celsius. Pete and I tried to figure that out last night at 1 am my time. ) but it was rainy and humid so it still felt cold.

Also one of the methods that they use to measure intelligence in animals is the ability to recognize them self in a mirror. So Far every squirrel that is a member of a family recognizes its self in front of a mirror. All the domesticated ones know their names and many of the wild ones do.

They can talk as well! You guys win for cuteness, then, because I don't know of any kangaroos or koalas that can do that! However, I am gonna post a photo of a quokka. No one can resist the quokka...

I see. 50°F is about 10°C. That's cool enough for a maximum. I thought it would be warmer where you are. Are you up near the top of Florida?

Still, I guess it's much nicer there than up north at the moment. Do you get the tropical sunsets there? That's what I miss about Darwin; you don't get those awesome sunsets down here.

Yes, we get some pretty sunsets but not as wonderful as the Florida Keys. However if you are out at the beach you can catch some very lovely sunset.
