Hello all,

Quick question (I hope): I purchased a yucca about 5 years ago and has now grown to approx. 5 feet and is very healthy. I'm moving to the west coast in a couple of weeks and I'll be driving through the mountains. It will be in the back of an unheated truck with temperatures that might get as low as -35C (-30F). It will take me about 15 hours to get out of the sub zero temps. My only thoughts were to make sure the soil is dry so that it won't freeze quite as badly, wrap a blanket around the pot, and put a big bag over the plant and tape it to the pot. Any ideas how to transport this plant safely?

Thanks in advance.

David

welcome!

if this yucca is one that must be grown inside in the more northern areas of the country, then it's most probably not going to be able to handle the unheated truck.

there are many that can handle freezing temps - i have some out in my yard, actually.

can you post a pic of it?? if we can get it id'd we'll be able to be of more assistance.

When I moved from Long Island to upstate NY, it was a 3 hour drive made in winter and I did loose some of my house plants. I hope someone has some great advice for you. Your other choice is to give it to someone special and buy a new one when you get to the west coast.. Good Luck
