I've never had any Bailey's Irish Creme but tonight I am thinking it sounds really good.

I've been drinking tea w/ fresh lemon, but I am wishing for something heavier on this very cold night. My homemade soup was yummy leftover's from yesterday but jeepers, some booze would be great!

I am just baking a couple of potatoes, Merme. I'm thinking of stuffing them with some broccoli and cheese. I couldn't drink and function tonight and finish what I need to get done.

I'm afraid all I have on hand is a couple of beers, merme.
I get in the mood for liquor sometimes in the winter time. I haven't bought any this winter though. it does warm the bones, doesn't it?
well, speaking of warm bones....I'm gonna hop in the hot shower. I'm pooped tonight, so I may not make it back.
mmmm...mmmm, some stuffed potatoes sound pretty good tina!
would you like some salami, sour cream, and chopped onions to go with that broccoli and cheese? it's all in the fridge. help yourself.

It is 8:30 here. John and Jonni are in bed for the night. I hope Ted is ready soon. I was up at 4:30 this morning. And I laid me down for a nap but didn't sleep. So I am getting pretty sleepy now myself.

I'm still watching the President & The First Lady's appearances at the official Inaugural Balls. It is so fun.

But I've also gotten chilly and I'm thinking it is time for bed myself. Tomorrow will be busy & long.

Good morning. I'm just starting on my second cup. Getting ready to get my kids off to school and get John to the hospital.
It has been a long week already. Is it Friday yet?

Good morning--all I had was 2 cups--I drink Rod's leftovers--and today he left less...

I wish it were friday already----but on the good side--it is sunshiny & a lot warmer than it has been--I even went out to get the mail without a coat---now it was chilly and a coat would of been welcome, but at least it was not freezing

what else does a person need??????

I am not complaining about my job. I am just telling things that go on that amaze me. I want parents to take responsibility. When did they quit? We started 2 hours late today because of ice. 9:00!!! for petes sake. Why do the students have to eat breakfast when they get here at 9:00? Didn't they eat yesterday? I don't understand why parents will give up the care and feeding of their children to the government but that's what it is.

There is talk of putting minute clinics in the schools so parents don't "have to take their children to the doctor." The school will see that students get a yearly physical at that schools clinic. I'm not sure who is pushing this but I think it has something to do with Medicaid dollars for a certain group. Maybe the school system. And as the nurse, if I would think a child needed to see a doctor or nurse practitioner I would just send them to the clinic. Sorry. Off on a tangent.

And I have one student, she's diabetic that's how I know her, who is late every day. She's in 5th grade and is at least 30 minutes late EVERY day-not an exaggeration. She says her uncle brings her to school and does it on his way to work. Because this school is considered at risk tardy's aren't counted. (next year she'll be in trouble). So today she didn't have to be here until 9. Guess what. She showed up at 10:30.

This world is in a heap of trouble because no one is accountable and I think it started with the people making rules for the schools.

Well I have to agree with your last statement there, Sheri.

We moved into this neighborhood because of the school system's reputation. But as my kids got into 5, 6th, and higher grades it quickly became apparent that the wrong people were/are running the show. I can't speak about the medical situations first hand there, but I do know that in the spring, kids can roll into the high school whenever they want if it is on their record that they suffer from seasonal allergies! The excuse is that they had a bad night's sleep. HUH?????!!! They have a separate late sign-in sheet for those kids. OK - I want to know how I can get on that list - it's ridiculous! And also disruptive to the classes and other kids who show up on time.

No one there enforces the dress codes that are clearly written in the student handbook each year, and girls (including my own) get to wear camisole tops that are skimpier than PJ's if you know what I mean. I tried to get them to enforce it, but was told that they could not legally. HUH????? Then why even bother putting it in the handbook every single year?

Just trying to commiserate a bit with you Sheri - even though our school rates very highly still, it's amazing what gets by the officials there.

that makes no sense about the dress code. I'm with you. Why bother then? If I was a student at your school I'd be signing in around 9 every day. These few extra hours sleep this week have done me a world of good.

The students at this school are termed high risk. I say all the more they need to conform to rules and regulations at school to be able to make it in society. The other schools in this district do enforce the uniform rules and the absence rules. When these 5th graders go to another school in 6th grade next year they're going to have a hard time. They will be required to follow rules or they will be suspended. I think things should be carried out across the board. During the summer students here were wearing flip flops to school. How unsafe is that. I contacted a few parents, reminded them of the dress code, then told them about fire ant bites and the concrete on the playground. Not in my job description but I've been bitten by ants before and it hurts. I couldn't enforce squat, because I'm a nobody here, but most of them started wearing closed toe shoes. I don't understand it. My grand children go to a school in this same district and they will be sent home before they get out of the car if they're out of uniform. The rules at this school are stupid.

Well our public schools do not have uniforms, but again, there are guidelines in the handbook. And almost ALL kids wear flip-flops in the warmer weather. Some actually wear them in winter to make a statement - that they are crazy???????

I agree - some one needs to be minding the store - not just in our schools but everywhere these days!

I have problems with unenforced dress codes too. I make my daughter dress to code and she doesn't like me for it because no one else does. Drives me nuts. Mind you, I do allow camisoles under a sweater or some other cover-up.
I have left John at the hospital for a refill and will go back in about half an hour to pick him up. I would rather nap but don't dare in case I oversleep. I have already picked Ted up from school.

I only read back 3. (that seems to be my new rule for myself when I'm so tired like today. ha ha) so, I dont know what the original dress code post was about. sorry. me lazy.
I make my kidos follow dress code in regards to their cloths. but, last year when the long hair was 'in'. I let my son go to school with hair longer than what is in the handbook. I did tell him, though, that if anyone says anything we WILL cut it. no hesitation, no complaining. rules are rules. I don't have a prob with the long hair, but if they are not going to enforce that rule we'll let it go for now.
where's that weekend? I can't see it yet, but I can hear it calling my name!

I'm home from my busy day. I've had a bite of dinner and a short nap. Now I feel restored to human again! YAY!

A school rule about length of HAIR?!

OMG I can't even imagine such a thing! I would be sending my kid with the longest hair in the world and dare them to try to make an issue of it. Long/short hair isn't a safety issue; it isn't a moral issue. I'd be at the head of a protest parade over that one. geez.

nothing wild going on here tonight. we had tacos, tamales, and nachos for supper. yum. yum. I made it easy on myself and declaired monday night homemade hamburger night and wed night mex. food night. friday nights has always been every man for himself. so that leaves only two work days that I have to be creative for dinner. it's working out great!
boy, do I have a lot of dishes to do though. not because tonight was such a hassle, but there were already some left over from last in the sink. (shhhhh! don't tell anyone I left dishes that long.)

yea, merme. at the schools here the boys hair is not supposed to be below the bottom of the collar. they rarely enforce it though. there are other things to concentrate on, right.

I'm also serving up bologna, provolone, lettuce, tomato and mayo sandwiches to go with some homemade soup.

Cricket, that is the old fashioned way to plan dinner menus. It's how I grew up. It was considered good homemaking & budget smart to have a plan for the week like that & the ladies of the previous generations often did so. As kids we always pretty much knew what was for dinner depending on which day of the week it was.

I always liked Wednesdays because after school we had dance lessons and when we came home from the studio, my mom always served homemade mac 'n cheese baked in the oven. Her's was the best recipe in the world!

I have a problem with hair length rules in school. For anyone. Unless you are in a shop class where it could be a danger. Then it would need to be pulled into a pony or braid or something. Tucked under a cap. If the girls can wear long hair than so ought the boys be able to. Same with all manner of dress as well. If the girls can wear a skirt then the boys should also be allowed, etc. Most would choose not to but it ought to be a choice.
This girl had to wear a dress or skirt all through school. They started allowing girls to wear pants the year after I left. I have rarely worn a dress since.

I also raised my first family on a planned menu. The kids always knew that Tuesday was hot dog day. It was changed up in the serving, buns or beanie weanies or sometimes I tossed in polish sausage instead. But it worked and worked for the budget too. I based mine on the schools monthly menus but used different foods on different days so they didn't get pasta twice in one day. I shopped once a month too.

Isn't it amazing how a simple thing such as an ordinary sandwich can be so satisfying?

I'm disappointed in the bread, though. I bought the loaf yesterday & opened it today. The bottom edge of every piece is stale already! I hate that! I'd take it back if it wasn't such a hassle.

I dislike stale bread with a passion, Merme. But you are right. It is a hassle to return it. I guess. I will make myself a sandwich too.

I spent a lot of time with my grandmother when I was a kid. she had a certain thing for EVERY day of the week.....week after week after week. it got very old. I wanted to do something similar just to make the decision making and planning easier. but leave it open to some variety, ya know.
yea, I don't see where the lenght of hair should be an issue at school either. I feel the same way with ear rings. girls can wear them but boys can't. just as girls can have long hair but boys can't. there are other issues to spend time and energy on.

I read the other day that toast is better for you than bread?

See that is why I changed up the way that hamburger night went. Some weeks it went to a home made hamburger helper meal. Others weeks on buns another week as sloppy joes. And hot dog night was different every week too, and so on. Pasta nights might be mac and cheese or spaghetti or something else. But pasta almost always incorporated left over meat from another meal; ham in mac n cheese or beef and or chicken in spaghetti, etc. And it wasn't set in stone. If the neighbors were ordering pizza, if I had the funds we would chip in and make it a neighborhood party thing.
The thing was, cooking this way meant I really could budget. The extra money meant a trip to Disneyland once a year or something.

has anyone noticed a drop in food prices lately?
I have, but now you have me wondering if the cheaper weekly grocery bill might have something to do with my meal planning thing. hhhhmmmm???

I will say I am not running in the red on my grocery budget though, so perhaps it has at that...

Prices are still creeping up here. I can find an occasional sale on something. But the day-to-day items are definitely up a big leap from last year. Butter, Ted's Trix yogurt, milk, bread. All things I have had an ongoing relationship with are up. Fresh and frozen veges are up. Meat is up with an occasional sale to whet the appetite.

Food prices are terrible here. It is easier when Maxi isn't home because I don't mind skimping when I'm here alone, but I can't with him in the house.

I'm weary tonight so I'm calling it for the day.
