Today we were able to work on installing the new track lighting for the kitchen. The tracking is made to be bent. I used 2 different sized crocks and a fire extinguisher to get the right bends that I wanted. Ignore the unfinished ceiling...that part won't get done until April or May...after the tub that is in the bathroom on the second floor gets moved and the piping for it gets moved around. I love the color of the lamps! What do you all think? Do you like them the lights? We will be tweaking the positioning of the lamps for a while....and more tweaking in a couple months when the cabinets are put in.
They are very pretty, Jenn. Do they shine a clear light down like it looks like they do? I'm thinking if they tinged my food in blue and yellow that I would soon be annoyed with it.

The light that shines is clear...or white...whatever you want to call it. The colored shades don't affect the light at all. The shades are blue and amber colored....the blue shows up really well in the photos, but the amber color washes out into a yellow color in the pictures since the lights were on.
ETA: the bulbs are halogens...so they are nice and bright when combined...140 watts on each track

I can't see your pictures for some reason. Probably because I'm at work and sometimes I can and sometimes I can't. I want to get some track lighting in my kitchen so I'll be sure to check it out when I get home.
Mark said that your kitchen looks just like our kitchen did pre remodel. With the old cabinets, wallpaper(ours was contact paper), and big pipe going down the wall (ours got drywalled in), and the paneling. How old is your house again? Ours was built in like 1895. Really old.
Sheri~ yes, we are doing all of the remodeling by ourselves. So far we have removed a wall that cut the room into two rooms, installed a beam to support the ceiling where the wall was removed, removed the old ceiling tiles, removed 95% of the old flooring, rewired the electric, and installed these lights.
Angelblossom~ yes...some blue accents. We were handed down a full set of Stangl pottery. The design is called "Country Garden" and every piece of the set has different flowers painted on them. So, all of the dinner plates have the same design on them....which is different than the design on the dessert plates....which is different than the design on the coffee mugs....but they are all flowers and have wonderful bright colors on them. Here is a link to a picture of 2 of the designs in the set... http://www.tabletopsetc.com/inventory/item.jsp?InventoryID=232847
Loz~ The house was built in 1892...according to the newspapers in the wall. The pipe will be drywalled in. We are going to do a small area that comes away from the wall that will be as wide as the stove plus 2 thin cabinets...that way, the area looks more like an accent than an after thought. If you'll notice, there is only a wall cabinet and a floor cabinet...that's all I have right now. I hate the lack of storage. It will be a total rehaul when we are done. New floor, ceiling, cabinets, counter tops, stove, dishwasher. We're keeping the refrigerator. I'm hoping to be able to sell the stove we have now...it is an early Westinghouse (I can't remember what year...1940 something maybe?) in near perfect condition. If I have time tomorrow, I'm hoping to get out to the cabinet place to get an estimate...but it isn't always easy with the kids. For flooring, I saw online that someone actually took plywood and laid it on the floors and then took a V-bit and a router and put grooves in the plywood to make it look like hardwood flooring....then they poly urethane over it. I can't do tile on the floor because of the weight and I'd like wood so I really liked the plywood idea.
It is a terrible alot of work, Jenn, but I'm sure you'll be so pleased when you are finished.
The track lights are very pretty.
So is the china... I clicked the link to see it.

We were given two hands to hold, two eyes to see, two ears to listen & two legs to walk. But why were we given only one heart? The other heart was given to another for us to find.

I love your lighting and the dishes are VERY nice indeed---and yes it is so cool that Stephen's Grandmother knew Mr Stangl personally.--what a keepsake.

Life isn't about how to survive the storm, but how to dance in the rain!! .....
James, the blue lights were at Lowes....they are discontinued. They still have the amber colored ones and there are also white ones....but I LOVE blue, so I bought every single blue light that they had for this track system. The also have pendant lights for this system but we do not have anywhere to put those nor do we have a need for those, so we just got the little "spot lights".
Know why they discontinue? Make more jobs.. Start a new line of something else..That is horrible. So if a sweeper or something goes......That means we dont carry parts. Been hate that..
If one breaks, I'll start getting white ones. And if I am at a different Lowes and come across a stray blue, I'm totally gobbling it up! I didn't mind mixing the blue and the amber....they look a little strange together with nothing else in the room those colors yet, but I don't care...I can see when I wash the dishes and cook now! :)
Thats :ding:all that counts .....You can C. We have to cook and see.. Winter months we need more light an the tiny bit of heat from them is a must also. bet the kids like the...
We only have 1 window in the kitchen, so it is a dark room to begin with...actually, I should explain....there is a door and 2 windows that we will be closing up because we need cabinets to go on that wall. So, to make sure that we wanted to close those area up, we pulled the blinds on the door and the windows and left them like that to see if we minded the darkness...or lack of view. We apparently don't mind it..especially when we have lights so we can see what we're doing! Most of the time, I forget that that door and the two windows are even there!!! I'm thinking about having Stephen close up the last window that is near the sink, tho, I kind of like looking out the window when I'm washing the dishes....even tho the view is just the neighbor's house and a bush.
Thanks. :) It took a little while to figure out how I wanted to bend the tracking....and bending it was alot harder than I thought it would be. But I like how it looks with the bends....it will be the only "modern" type of thing in the kitchen.
I've been talking to our cousin who is an art major in college. I guess she is going to be an art teacher...anyways, I'm working on trying to commission her to do a one of a kind back splash for us.
