Yes, I have limb loss, Sheri... right below knee. But I had fantastic PT after I got the prosthesis and I walk without even a limp or an oddity to my gait. When I am feeling well, I can dance, play ball, ride a bike... whatever I want.

I thought I knew that but for some reason I didn't think you could walk on snow with a prothesis. I actually thought you said that one time.

You kidding? People ski with prosthesis, Sheri! But walking (or skiing) on snow takes a bit of additional training because the prosthesis ankle has no flex. You must manuover the foot differently.

Because my regular leg is "cosmetically enhanced" -- it looks REAL! -- the only things I can't do with it are swim & go in the bath or shower. I have an alternate leg for those activities.

Loz ~ I'm so sorry about your tooth! I can remember that kind of pain.

When I was in my early 20's and living in NJ, one day I got a terrible toothache. It kept me up ALL night! By morning I was nuts with the pain in my jaw.

So once it was normal business hours, I got out the yellow pages and started with A under dentists trying to find someone who could see me that very day. It was a Wednesday & I soon learned that most dentists in that area are closed on Wednesdays! (Playing golf? why ) Finally, I got to G and found a dentist who was open & would see me.

Well, his office was 7 miles from my house. I didn't drive in those days and there was no public transit. Mom was working, so I grabbed my purse and growled at her that I was walking to the dentist in Heightstown & would be home later!

Soon after my best girlfriend called who lived in Heightstown & my mom told her I had slammed out of the house like a bear with a sore paw & was walking to town to go see a dentist! lol

My friend came looking for me but by then someone else had given me a lift (yes, I hitched rides in those days) and I was already at the dentist.

He asked me "what would you like me to do for you today?"

I said "Yank it out, fill my mouth with cement. Do WHATEVER it takes to make the pain stop!"

He looked inside & said he believed me. And he got it out. My wisdom tooth had broken off near the gum line and he had a terrible time getting it out but out it came.

I was pretty dopey by the time he was done & was glad my friend came to fetch me & I didn't have to hitch home.

So it sounds to me your plan to wait to see the oral surgeon is a good plan, Loz! lol It actually sounds pretty sensible... no hitching on a hot day, a nut job stomping down the road in toothache agony bawling at the dentist for relief.

Merme, I don't know who told me that but I remember not wanting to contradict them. I thought maybe they were afraid to walk on snow. Should have known you had too much since for that. Maybe it was a renal patient when I worked at the dialysis unit.

I had a toothache one time and it was horrible. That seems to be one of the worse pains.

haha I hitched a couple of times when I was younger. Luckily two times people that knew us picked us up, and another time a woman stopped and picked us up.

A toothache is TERRIBLE pain. You can think of nothing else while you have it. I sure hope the Amoxicillin kicks in soon. You see a few weeks back I took a Z-pack of antibiotics--they are really meant for toothaches but mine did disappear for a week or so after that. So I hope that the Amoxicillin really works good because it's meant for tooth issues moreso than a Z-pack.

Do you have dentures now? I'm sure one day I will be heading down that route. Dad had them since he was young....he fell running down a hill and busted his teeth up bad. When we were little he'd stick them out of his mouth to make us laugh. lol

Sheri what are you up to tonight? wavy

Yes, loz, I have dentures. When I was 42 I got a nasty complication of the diabetes and although my teeth were beautiful, they had to come out. I have very attractive, well fitting plates, but I still miss the look of my own teeth.

Hi Cricket.

Sheri I know lots of people with limb loss who are afraid to walk on the snow. Some of the people in my support group stay home in bad weather. Others make sure to park their cars in a garage & have someone else clear the driveway so all they have to do is get in and drive away.

Having seen tragic accidents by young & healthy people falling on the ice, I can understand the reluctance of someone with a prosthesis. I have a friend in her 30's and another friend in his 40's... both fell on the ice and broke their femurs... lots of surgery and difficult recoveries.

Did you all see that tragic story of the young Brazilian pageant girl that had to have both hands and feet amputated? She got septicemia and her hands and feet were not getting blood to them. To save her life they removed them but sadly she died anyway. She was so pretty and young.....and it all started from an misdiagnosed UTI. Really horrible.

I think one day dentures will be okay with me. Perfect teeth. At least there are no more toothaches ever. That's a great thing. thumbup

No I didn't hear of the Brazilian girl. That is very very sad.

Tina, Pasta is okay but it is not in my top favorites. I hope you enjoy yours!

we are having meat loaf, although soup sounds really good! I plan on doing some extra cooking over the weekend so we have a variey of leftovers to eat on. I'm tired of cooking every night and then having to eat what I cooked! (does that make any sense?) ha ha. i'd rather cook tonight, but eat something I cooked yesteday. Or, eat something that someone else has cooked....but that rarely happens.

OH...btw. my daughter got 2nd place in her whole grade for an art project! I'm so proud of her.

Loz, sorry about your toothache!

I love meatloaf, especially on sandwiches....with cheese and mustard or ketchup. YUM.

Way to go to your daughter!!! That's fantastic.

Thanks Cricket.....I try not to complain too much but it's just such bad pain. I've taken so many Advil I'm surprised I haven't OD'd. lol

Loz tooth pain is awful awful pain. It is OKAY to whine. Whine all you want until it is resolved. We understand.

loz you also have a pm.

Cricket meatloaf is yumsville. I like it on sandwiches w/ ketchup. One of the few times I will eat ketchup. The odd thing is, Maxi loves hamburger any way he can get it EXCEPT meatloaf. Don't know why he hates it.

And yes, it makes sense to want something you didn't just work so hard to make. I get that way sometimes, too.

Congrats to your daughter. Art is a wonderful way to express yourself and an great outlet.
I know exactly what you mean about cooking and not eating what you cooked. Even if it is better than anything you could purchase it isn't the same if you have labored over it. That is the reason I try to cook ahead a lot. I love cooking but would rather eat it a day or two later. Or pull it of the freezer a lot later.

Well, there is tina. we didn't loose her.
thanks on the congrats on my daughters art project. she gets it from her dad. she was a bit embarrassed that it was hung up and oh'd and aw'd over, 'cause she just sat down and started drawing and coloring'. ha ha. she didn't think it was very good. we had her in an after school art class last year, cause we saw some real talent in her...(and it was cheaper than softball. ha ha)

Ah! There's Miss Tina.

Maxi does art every single day of his life. He is improving. All that dedication is paying off. His drawings are getting more realistic and shapely. Maxi has a hard time organizing anything on a piece of paper... it took YEARS to teach him not to start writing at the bottom of the page and work his way UP. Then a long time to teach him to stop at the right edge and move back to the left and come across again. He would reach the right edge and then just write down the side! He also has a problem with columns for numbers. Even so, art is his first love and he works hard at it.

mmmm.....mmmmm..sleeping in the sun sounds real nice, ms. merme!
I've had enough of this cold weather. tonight the heater runs and runs and when I think I'm gonna choke on all this stuffy dry heated air, it cuts off...then 5 minutes later I get cold.
OK.......I'm about to start on merme's crochette slipper recipe. I finally finished the kidos blankets. well, I finished one of their blankets and do not have the right color thread to finish the other one yet. wish me luck! (merme, hopefully I will not be bugging you with stupid questions on your pm!)

that's great that maxi has worked so hard on his writting skills and got that down, now he is good at art. you know...funny thing...my daughter had the hardest time learning to read and is now great at art??? she could spell every word on her spelling list, but ask her to read the words she just spelled???? she couldn't read a single one! we thought she'd never make it out of 1st grade. now she reads at her grade level and excels in art. wonder if there is a conection???

Just about ready to hit the road today and get my son off to school, do some shopping. I shop so often these days but I always feel like I am falling behind in household goods and food. Plus it is not the most economical way to live, either.

After the big storm yesterday, the sunny skies overhead this morning are certainly a welcoming sight!

I had a whacky dream last night of Jiffy, Loz, Afgrey, Angelblossom & Shirley4. I think that happened because I fell asleep thinking of Cricket. "You Know You're Addicted to The Forum When..." lol

My girl was supposed to be here two hours ago to help me prepare for and then take me to, an important meeting. I haven't heard a word from her. But I'm telling you, her unreliability frosts me in a way our weather does not! She even borrowed one of my shovels so she wouldn't have an excuse not to come today. I was startled! Does anyone living in snow country not bother to purchase an inexpensive shovel before age 47?

Good morning, Tina.

I know I dislike shopping by drifts and drabs too. I like to plan and get it done in big chunks, saving money in the process. Well, hopefully when your life settles down a bit, you'll be back to what is normal for you.

When my life settles down, I'm thinking I will have to come up with a new 'normal' for me. The old one included five or more kids and cooking for them. My current family is so unsettled that the 'planning' is the problem. It isn't exactly the same as empty nest syndrome but closer to that than any other I can think of.

I am sorry to inform you that I have never bought a snow shovel. Even in my house in Rochester, NY. I used the one the previous owners had left.

and about the snow shovel--we just as well not have one---If you remember, last year Rod hurt his back shoveling our snow, and was in bed for a week.--so he is not shoveling this year.--and of course I cannot yet--
