My mom taught me how to do this project teenagers liked to do in the 1960's. Anceint history!
What you do is save the paper wrappers from sticks of gum. The long kind, not the little ones like trident. There is a special way to fold them and connect them together so they make a tight zig zag chain!
This is really fun.
Teens like to see how long of a chain they can make.
If any of you chew long gum of any kind and would like to save your wrappers and send them to me, I'd be happy for them!!
My mom told me it takes a long time to collect enough wrappers to make a ginormous chain, so I will be doing this project forever.

OMGosh,, I used to do that,, a lonnnnnnnng time ago
My friends and I would make bracelets with them too and use threads from needle point so we could match the colors, We'd use the heavy gift wrap paper to use too,, but it was a pain to cut them to the size of gum wrappers.
mannnnnn did this topic ever bring back memories,, Thanks for reminding me how old I am,,

Maxi do they have 'Five' gum where you are? the teens around here peel the wrapper in to. (take the top layer from the bottom layer) the colored part of the paper is still sticky. they cover notebooks with them making a coloage.

Maxi, When I was in the 9th grade I made a chain over 9 feet long from all the Star Burst candy wrappers. Each little candy was wrapped individually in a pack and loved those things. I ate them every day at school and that chain was made only from the ones that I ate! Over 9 Feet! You can do it! I'm rooting for you!
My next house will have no kitchen - just vending machines and a large trash can.
Hi Maxi! My friends and I used to use strawburst wrappers to make chain and the like. They were more colourful than the white gum wrappers. Could you post pictures once you're done?

I would help you Maxi but I only chew Stride gum and it's in a little wrapper not a long one. I wish you luck with your project though, it sounds like fun!
What a warm fuzzy - I LOVED those gum wrapper chains, and taught my kids to make them also when they were younger!!! Unfortunately, most gum nowadays isn't sold in long sticks like that anymore. Sorry I can't help, but have fun with your project!
Maxi, Go here ********* You will like it. It is the gum wrapper chain that is in the Guinness Book of World Records. This man adds to his chain every night and people send wrappers to him from all over the world.

Oh, Jenn, My AVG said there was a threat on that site when I tried your link.
I have no clue what that is. I went to that site myself...nothing was wrong with it. I'm a little irritated lately with certain programs deciding if a site *might* have something wrong with it. I frequent a blog that I usually access via a google search and today google told me that it might have something that could harm my computer. ::rolls eyes:: I visit that site every single day. Anyways...I have no clue what AVG is...like I said, I visited the site myself before I posted it.
Maxi, it was a link to the site of the man who holds the world record for the longest gun wrapper chain. I thought you would have liked it.
Maxi: I too made the gum wrapper chain, back when I was in say 7.8 & 9th grades. I do not have it any longer. However, I will send you my gum wrappers as I get them----I don't chew a lot of gum any longer, but you will own what I do get---
