Purple Finch

Angelblossom, it's very similar to your House Finch, except that it has more extensive purplish coloration.

I've only seen ONE Purple Finch in 20 years of birding......and it was a female.

Purple Finches and House Finches are ALMOST identical. Male Purple Finches are more of a BERRY red in color and the red is more uniform and more extensive. Male House Finches range from red to orange and the red is more splotchy and less extensive. If you can see a BROWN or GRAY, or DARK Cap on top of the red head, THEN it is a male House Finch. Male Purple Finches have a COMPLETELY red head with NO cap. Females of the two species are practically identical, EXCEPT, the female Purple Finch has a noticeable light-colored eye line, while the female House Finch has a PLAIN head.

OK, ya beat me. I DON'T have any White-Throated Sparrow pics yet and you go and get an EXTRAORDINARY close-up of an EXTRAORDINARY example of a White-Throated Sparrow. The colors couldn't be any more vivid and distinct and ALL the main field-marks are there. The BEAUTIFUL yellow lores, the white, WHITE throat. A perfect shot and specimen!
