I was watching this hawk flying and he finally landed on the top of a tree,, this picture was taken from my work's parking lot. The tree is across the interstate. Keep in mind the clarity isn't going to be as crisp as I used the most zoom I could then cropped the picture to bring the hawk closer..

settled upon a tree

When our little, mean dog, ToDeTa, was a puppy we would put her outside in a small fence when we were working in the yard. She barked continuously and a big hawk would sit in a tree and watch her. It took a while before we realized that hawk was waiting for the right moment......We stopped putting her out there.

I believe that is a Red-Tail. Notice the "Cumberbund" of dark feathers around his middle? That, and the pinkish tail, are the two MAIN field marks of this hawk. I am fairly weak on hawk and Sparrow ID and my Shorebird ID skills are pretty much non-existent.

Here is a Red-Tailed Hawk I took with my old camera. Note the cumberbund and the spread, turkey-like, pinkish tail? That tells you that this IS a Red-Tailed Hawk.
