I have a problem in general with my houseplants that the lower leaves either sag or dry and die and the upper leaves do well and the plants grow up.

But now it happened and, while it's not a regular thing, it's specific.

I had an avocado pit in water with toothpicks and it's beautiful--the tree is about 1.5 feet tall (grew VERY fast) with 5 nice leaves at the top. I put it in dirt yesterday, in a big pot, and added a lot of water. Then I moved it to a window with pretty good sun--it was before in a place with no direct sun, but now it does have.

Today the top 2 leaves are standing UP, trying to reach the sky and the bottom two are sagging, like they're tired.

What did I do wrong?

Thanks.

don't know where you are located...if you're in the northern hemisphere, you should have waiting another month or so to replant it - spring is usually the best time to do replanting/repotting.

other than that, almost all plants will go into a bit of shock whenever the roots are disturbed - sometimes it's barely noticable and other times it's extremely noticable. seems like yours is kind of in between the extremes.

also, you changed its lighting - and drastically. that'll almost always cause a problem.

first thing i would do is put it back where it was when it was in water - or as close to that spot as you can. let it get situated to being in the soil in that very-shaded spot. once you see that it's recovered from being transplanted, gradually move it to a brighter location - generally do the move over the course of two weeks time.

if you need to keep it in the new, sunny, location now, just keep the windows covered so that it's shaded and gradually allow a bit more light every day until it's in full sun.
