Hmmm. I gave my old man some socks. He really needed them. And then he felt bad because he got me nothing. I got to go car shopping with my teen and her friend and my son. She had her heart set on a '94 Camaro with 115,000 but her dad kiboshed it. So she is looking through online sources. She is bummed though.

I got some cool candles and candle holders from the kidos. hubby wanted to take me out to eat, but I told him I just wasn't up for it. I'm not a big fan of valentines day. (hallmark-get-rich-day) I got hubby some oatmeal raisin cookies (his favorite). and a dvd that I have been wanting to see for a long time. ha ha we're not real romantic around here. but happy valentines day to all of you!

Ah, summer, what power you have to make us suffer and like it. ~Russel Baker
well, as many of you are not aware, by beloved began having a series of strokes in early october, and following up with the ensuing tests and diagnostics, he went in for carotid artery surgery on the 8th of december. 30 hours later he had a series of strokes from the surgery, plunging him into a crash of seizures, fever, respiratory distress and coma. he was in critical care for 6 weeks, respirator, cathetor, feeding tube, 6 lines of intervenous support. not what we had planned. it was to be surgery, 2 nights observation and home to recover for at least a month again. today, he lives in a nursing home. he is beginning to wake up, trying to speak one or more mumbled words... if i catch him when he is lucid. bet on the next day being a "bad day". we have no way of communicating, nothing is consistent. what i wouldn't give to fix this man his favorite meal, give him a mushy card and wild monkey love. i went to see him today and hug his neck and kiss his face, while he stared transfixed upon a thread on the blanket over his lap. Y'all don't know how lucky you are. our whole lives together have been about the love we have for each other, and now we have, in the blink of an eye ....well, it is what it is. I miss my guy, big time.
My hubby and I spent the day lazing around the house. Nothing special or fancy. It would have been nice to have been able to go out to eat, but we do that periodically anyway. Instead, I made it a point to fix a family favorite that I have made in a while, and we walked in the yard, looking at the new spring growth. That's my most favorite thing to do with my husband. It would be the one thing I probably missed the most if I were to loose him.
Petunia, I can't imagine what it would be like to loose my husband in that way. For him to still be there, but really not know that he is. My heart and prayers go out to you and him. You are a strong and wonderfully loving woman to be able to stay with it. So many people now-a-days would have walked away, and that's a sad thing to think about. He may not know it at the moment, but your husband has a very fine woman, IMHO.
Annette expressed beautifully how I think we all feel, Petunia. I am so sorry you and your husband are going through all this , and hope for the day that he will come around for you.
