I saw the most AMAZING thing yesterday! I wish I had been able to get to my daughter's camera...

There was an entire FLOCK of bluebirds playing in my magnolia! I have never seen so many at one time before. They were singing and chasing each other...it sure was a sight to behold. There had to have been at least 20 of them. It was hard to really count because they kept jumping and flying from branch to branch.

Has anyone else seen that many bluebirds in one place? Is it a usual thing?

It is a common thing this time of year. A pair of bluebirds can raise up to 4 batches of young each breeding season. Each batch of young stay with their parents for a year and help take care of their NEW siblings. The next spring the family flock splits up and looks for mates to create NEW Family Flocks. The flock you were seeing in your tree is composed of the original parents from LAST year and all their offspring from all the different batches. In a couple of months this group will split up. I have been involved in bluebird conservation for about 20 years now.
